I’m Loraine Ballard Morrill. I haven’t feeling all the rain we’ve been getting but my flowers are loving it. But I’m not letting it get me down because I am working out and getting into the best shape of my life. I’m pretty amazed at how much this helps my mood and sense of wellbeing. This morning we talk with angel and Tim hunter who are personal trainers with a difference. They work on getting our insides fit as well as the outside. Money issues can mess with your moods too – we talk with Joanna Jane who has some commonsense advice about getting our money straight. But first we take a trip down to Atlantic City via the author of Chicken Bone Beach - about a section of the Jersey Shore where black folk could gather and enjoy the ocean during segregation.

I visited SCI Phoenix on Friday to meet with my brothers from another Mother…..the men I first met at Graterford Prison who have created a truly remarkable program Called Fathers and Children Together or F.A.C.T which connects fathers living behind the walls with their children. I re-air an interview with a member of the external team and the mother and son whose lives have been changed by the program.

The WesGold Fellows is a highly intensive summer internship program focusing on personal and professional development. Over the course of eight weeks, 15 high school students are guided through curriculum based instruction, experiential learning opportunities, uniquely engaging field trips, and professional development training. Last month I had the pleasure of hosting the highschool students taking part in the program. Afterwards I brought them into the studio to for an interview to get their views on the things adults don't understand about teens, their hopes and fears and their visions of their futures. It was a great and eye opening conversation. I think you'll enjoy hearing these bright young people as much as I did.
