  • A Promise Worth Keeping | Katie Davenport Executive Director of Greenwood Promise in South Carolina

The Greenwood Promise is a place-based last-dollar scholarship program designed to reach beyond the boundaries of economic need and academic ability. As such, the Promise awards funds to offset the remaining balance of post-secondary tuition and mandatory fees for every high school graduate whose primary residence is zoned for Districts 50, 51 or 52.

Initial Promise awards began with the SPRING high school graduating class of 2017. Because the Promise is funded by private and public donations, implementation of the Promise will be in three phases as funding allows. https://www.greenwoodpromise.com/

    Phase 1
Tuition assistance for students to obtain a certificate, diploma, or associates degree from Piedmont Technical College (PTC) or one of the other SC technical colleges if a particular major is not offered at PTC.

    Phase 2-fundraising in progress
This includes Phase 1 plus the last two years of a post-secondary education at Lander University or another state-supported institution if the desired degree is not offered at Lander.  We are currently not funding students in Phase 2.

Hearing that thousands of children that received breakfast and lunch at school but were going hungry on weekends compelled Vince, Lisa and Taylor Scarpinato to found Kitchen on the Street as a means of bringing food and hope to children in need. In 2007 Kitchen on the Street was limited to one program to serve the hungry children of Phoenix, a food backpack program providing shelf stable meals and snacks to food insecure children. As a volunteer driven faith based non-profit organization, KOS relies on the community to meet the needs of the hungry and hurting. • Including Each, Strengthening All Meet The Ruderman Family Foundation

Including Each, Strengthening All Meet The Ruderman Family Foundation | Philanthropy United Podcast

The Rudermans followed the pattern of many philanthropic families—starting with generous check-writing at the kitchen table and quickly moving into strategic investment. Founder and successful businessman, Morton E. Ruderman, had long been giving back to the Jewish community in Boston. In the early 2000s, Mort decided to make a major gift to local Jewish day schools. When they learned about the absence of children with disabilities in their classrooms, the family felt this systematic exclusion was an affront to their Jewish values. They agreed to focus on correcting this injustice and from the beginning understood their commitment to the inclusion of children and adults with disabilities as a social justice imperative.

Mort tapped his oldest son, Attorney Jay Ruderman, to lead the Foundation. Jay’s experience with civil rights issues enabled him immediately to understand the disability community as a socially, economically, and politically excluded and segregated class. This is the assumption from which he leads the Foundation and the fundamental perspective we hold today: disability rights are civil rights.

RED, WHITE, BLUE & STEEL | Steel-Hearts.org Honoring the legacies of Fallen Service Academy Members

Founded by two graduates of the United States Military Academy in 2014, Steel Hearts has raised and donated over $150,000 and brought attention to dozens of scholarships, memorial funds, and veteran organizations. We’ve accomplished this through the sale of our unique, commemorative bracelets available on this website.

For every bracelet sold, $10 goes to a veteran charity or organization designated by the fallen graduate's family. We have expanded beyond West Point and offer commemorative bracelets honoring the fallen graduates of the United States Air Force Academy and United States Naval Academy. Please help us spread the word!

We are an all-volunteer organization that is passionate about our mission. We invite you to check out our site and follow our social media pages. Most importantly, we ask that you always remember the ultimate sacrifice our brothers and sisters have made in service of our country.
