Paul has been writing about true Christian unity. Now he must address a dispute that could destroy the unity in the Philippian church. This dispute is not a doctrinal or biblical dispute. It is personal. At the heart of this dispute is not having the mind of Christ. How sad that most disputes that lead to division within the body of Christ are not over doctrine of biblical truth. Most often it happens when believers choose not to put on the mind of Christ and allow selfish personal issues to rise above true Christian unity. 

Paul then tells us all to rejoice always. To let our gentleness be known to all. And finally, to be anxious for nothing. The key in all of this is that we bring our prayer, or supplication and thanksgiving before the Lord. The result will be the peace of God that will guard our hearts and mind.
