Philosophy? WTF?? episodes

  • Ep.36 History of Philosophy: Epicurus, Stoics and Cynics Part 4
This weeks cast is all about us and we make no apology for that! Listen in total lack of surprise as Danny introduces Wittgenstein into the discussion without any thought for other people. Do the Stoics bring nothing to the party? Are we turning into a self help service? Also from the depths of Diogenes barrel hear Mike weeping like a small child as he watches the closing scene of Roman Holiday. Is this cosmic destiny or is this self imposed responsibility? Does Mike just need to pull himself together, grow up and accept the natural order of the universe? You decide, or not, the choice is yours… or is it?

  • Ep. 35 History of Philosophy: Epicurius, Stoics and Cynics Part 3
This week why not attempt to swim against the tide as Mike and Danny seek to convince you to accept your Stoic destiny and listen once again to their podcast. Consider, with a sense of calm resignation, the very real possibility that this podcast was intended for you, it was ALWAYS intended for you and that to attempt to ignore it is to do nothing more than spit into the winds of fate. Let Mike and Danny guide you along the path of true acquiescence to your inevitable telos as the eternal listener. Don’t fight it, you know it makes sense.

  • Ep. 34 History of Philosophy: Epicurus, Stoics and Cynics Part 2
This week we defy you not to shed a tear as Mike reminisces about Terry O’Conner and the thwarting of teenage desire. Listen in mute disbelief as Danny regales you with tales of Diogenes the Cynic and his impropriety in a public place. Is passion the enemy of a contented life? Are Mike and Danny predestined by the rational laws of the universe to produce this weeks cast or is it just that they have nothing better to do over the weekend? What is the cost of tuning in and dropping out? You are either on the bus or off it folks.

  • Ep. 33 History of Philosophy: Epicurus, Stoics and Cynics
This week Mike and Danny adopt a stiff upper lip in the face of all adversity. Listen in mild, but in no way extreme, disgust as Mike snarfs down a slice of carrot cake in a noisy and self indulgent manner. Look on in studied disinterest as Danny is forced to shoehorn Wittgenstein into a discussion of the Epicureans. Gaze in mute acceptance at Danny and Mike as they produce a podcast with no telos beyond it's simple existence in the world. Keep calm and don’t get your hopes up

  • Ep.31 History of Philosophy: Aristotle Part Two
This week Mike attempts to conform to the ideal while Danny seeks to understand the world in all its variety and empirical particularity. Is the world made up of clear and logical distinctions? Are there no middle grounds? Can we have our cake AND eat it? More to the point, can we eat our cake and still have it? Will our children ever forgive us for the startling revelations that this podcast dares to revel? We are not altogether sure, which, after all, is our job.

  • Ep. 28 History of Philosophy:Plato and The Republic Part 2
In this week's thrilling podcast Danny and Mike haggle over who should be in charge of the ideal podcast. Danny maintains that his editing abilities make him best suited to the task but Mike counters with the assertion that he has the soul of a podcaster and is thus is ideally equipped to fulfil this function and how do you like them apples!? Is god on Mike’s side? Is Plato on Mike’s side? Who will speak for Danny? Perhaps Danny is better off merely pouring the beer and leaving the decision making to Mike whose philosophical soul provides him with the capacity to see things as they truly are and to act benevolently on Danny’s behalf. Of course if Danny disagrees it will be time for the big stick and the chains… once again.
