Coming off a disastrous 1-4-1 road trip, the Philadelphia Flyers returned home to the friendly confines of the Wells Fargo Center on Wednesday night for a Metropolitan division matchup with the Eastern Conference-leading Washington Capitals in what I’m calling the most important game of the season.

After looking downright horrible at points while Disney on Ice was in town, the orange and black turned in one of their best performances of the season, defeating the Caps 3-2 in regulation, bringing them within five points of the Pittsburgh Penguins and New York Islanders, who currently hold the third and second spots in the divisional standings, respectively.

When I started the show I had no volume and then I guess I turned it up too high because now it's too reverb-y. Except for the Travis Konecny goal. This is a thing of beauty.

Other than that, not much good to report on this one. The Flyers kicked off 2020 the same way they ended 2019, surrendering four goals in the first period. Philly outshot Vegas 26-15 over the last 40 minutes, and out-scored them 2-1, but the hole they dug in the opening frame was too deep.

The orange and black certainly made it interesting at the end, and the Golden Knights took a pair of penalties in the closing minutes to create a 6-on-3 scenario for the Flyers, but the offense just couldn’t put the equalizer by Marc-Andre Fleury.
