It’s ok to be pissed about this one.

The Philadelphia Flyers were down right awful in Pittsburgh on Tuesday night, losing 7-1 to the Penguins at PPG Paints Arena.

Brian Elliott got the start, allowing six goals on 28 shots through the game’s first 40 minutes. Elliott has now played 248:08 since last Monday 10/21, appearing in all five games (including four starts). This outcome was in no way to be blamed on Elliott, but it’s also not shocking that the goaltender couldn’t help bail his team out of a slow start and try to seize momentum given his workload and history. It may not have (probably wouldn’t have) even mattered, but you never know what a few extra early saves can do.

Carter Hart entered to start the third period and stopped the first eight shots he faced in the period before ceding the Pens’ seventh goal of the evening to Dominik Kahun with less than seven seconds remaining. Maybe this is something for Hart to build on before his presumed start against the Devils on Friday night.

I’m spending this much time discussing the goalies because it’s at least something to talk about. Everybody else on the team just sucked on Tuesday. There’s really nothing else to say. They were that bad.

Somehow, the postgame chat went nearly an hour despite the horrible effort. You should listen to it. Hell, you already wasted time on the game, why not finish off the routine?

That was just a terrible freakin’ game. Ugly. Awful. Not even close to enough jam in that one, boys.

The Philadelphia Flyers, one night after a crazy come back at the Wells Fargo Center, laid an egg on Long Island, falling 5-3 to the New York Islanders on Sunday.

Nobody played particularly well, but Carter Hart (5 goals allowed on 14 shots), Shayne Gostisbehere, and Samuel Morin stood out in a negatively in a game where the orange and black just couldn’t seem to find that extra level. They just couldn’t elevate themselves to meet the challenge posed by Barry Trotz’s Isles.

Brian Elliott played well in relief, stopping all 19 shots he faced over the game’s final 30 minutes. There weren’t many other bright spots, despite Jake Voracek opening the game’s scoring on a nice give and go play with Travis Sanheim, who created the turnover at the offensive blue line to start the play. It was an excellent two-man effort 1:07 into the first period.

The Isles netted three straight before Travis Konecny got his team within one to end the first stanza. But NYI added two more in the second and, really, the result never appeared in doubt. The Flyers just didn’t have it on Sunday night.

What started as a slow-moving clunker became a barn-burning goal-fest as the Flyers scored five unanswered goals in the third period to defeat the Columbus Blue Jackets 7-4. Not only did the Flyers win, but they did it with a shorty from Kevin Hayes, two goal-front deflections from JVR, and an absolute cannon from Shayne Gostisbehere. That's Ghost's first goal of the season and one hope that shaking that monkey off of his back will open up his game going forward.
