Phoenix Rising came into tonight’s match with an opportunity to bounce pack. Facing a San Antonio side that have lost five straight, Rising was looking to make a statement under interim manager’s Diego Lopez’s first match in charge.

It did not go accordingly to plan. After a weather delay halted the original start of the match, Phoenix continued the theme of coming out slowly. A first half goal by Juan Agudelo was the only spark from either side in a very dull first half. Fede Varela did well to head home the equalizer in the second half. Yet a penalty netted Agudelo’s brace and left San Antonio curbing their slide and leaving Rising waiting to do the same for theirs.
