Our guest today is the poster child for “if I can do it, so can you.” Shelly Edwards Jorgensen's story feels like it comes right out of a book. In fact it does, in her new book Beautiful Ashes, she chronicles her life, her trauma, and most importantly her healing. Her story is the survival guide to life that we all need. Shelly says “There are way too many of us, way too many survivors of assault.” And because of that she lives in service, telling her story and providing the tools she learned along the way in order to help others overcome their own obstacles so that they don’t have to suffer as long as she did.
Like many who have experienced trauma, she found that traditional therapy only scratched the surface. It wasn’t until she incorporated a holistic approach and tapped into her spirituality and faith that her healing journey began to transform.
If you feel drawn to this particular episode, trust that feeling. Take your time listening, unpacking, and feeling through this episode. Allow her story to inspire you, and also allow it to bring out your curiosity about your own story. Despite everything that Shelly has experienced in her lifetime she is of the firm belief that “Adversity is a gift, it's an opportunity for growth if you take it as such.”
In this interview, Shelly is raw, vulnerable and open about what she went through and how she climbed her way out of a dark pit of despair headed into a healed life. As Shelly said in our first conversation together: “I am an open book because I don’t carry any more shame around my abuse/assaults.” Please give her the gift of your attention and grace, as she does in this conversation.
I give you, Shelly Edwards Jorgensen.
