Every year on April 5th, India celebrates National Maritime Day to commemorate the maiden voyage of the SS Loyalty, the first Indian ship to sail from Bombay to London in 1919. The holiday honours India's rich maritime history as well as the contributions of its seafarers to the country's economy and security.
