The jump into full time photographer can be a pretty scary one to make. Timing is everything but having the courage to understand when you're ready to turn your part time passion into a full time profession is easier said than done. In this episode I sit with Detroit area wedding and portrait photographer David Kovacs, half of a husband and wife team "Dave and Ang Photography" and talk through what the last year of his life has looked like leaving a lucrative career in the robotics industry to pursue wedding photography full time. Dave is a humble guy with a keen eye and a lot of talent but his pragmatic approach to making sure he could provide for his four kids along side his wife really set this talk apart. A great episode for any photographer wondering whether or not they are ready to take the plunge and a great reminder for even seasoned professionals that understanding our value, and learning to take the right steps at the right times for our companies may be the difference between success and failure.

YOU WORK TOO MUCH. This special episode is all about Thanksgiving and taking time to enjoy the holidays. We're sitting down again with positive Polly herself Ellie McKinney to talk about all she's up to with Psyched Society, her wedding photography, growing an online photographer's educational platform and still taking time to be present in her personal life. Along side her husband, Ellie runs a thriving wedding and portrait photography company in North Carolina with a keen brand understanding of psychology and balance. This episode is an absolute positivity shot of how we can achieve our dreams and have friends at the same time!
This week I sit down with an absolute legend. He's a writer for F-Stoppers and DVLP presets, a winner of Fearless Photographer's awards and has been named several times one of the top wedding photographers in the world for his ability to pair authentic capture with remarkable and unique lighting techniques. Jason Vinson from Vinson Images talks through how working along side brands, teaching techniques on Patreon, guest writing for publications and blogs, all while serving his wedding photography clients has scaled his reach and created insulation for dry seasons. It's a really candid, beautiful conversation I'm excited to be able to share.

Coming in solo on today's 10th episode with some actionable steps photographers can take to reprioritize where their creativity comes from and scale the value they're delivering to their clients. Let's be honest, we're all a little worried about becoming obsolete but the truth is that trends come and go and building a brand on a strong foundation with established and evolving elements is the key to surviving whatever the next trend is.
In this episode I break down four specific, actionable, real steps you can take right now and implement into your brand in the future that will insulate you from being swallowed up and will add value and depth to not only your photography but your client experiences. We all know that the off season just just around the corner. Between wedding summits, photography workshops, educational guides, and prepping for the next year it's possibly more important now than ever to make sure that you're building your company on bricks that withstand future shifts in the wedding and portrait industry.

Charmi Patel Pena is a world renowned wedding and portrait photographer specializing in multicultural and specifically Indian weddings living in New Jersey. Her work is vivid, bold, and compositionally dynamic but alongside being a Nikon Ambassador, educator, and photographer she is also a mom and wife struggling to juggle the pressures of living in both worlds. This episode is all about the lessons she has learned after a year dealing with the Covid-19 Pandemic as a mom and business owner and how setting boundaries around her professional life is letting her be more present at home and more creative at work.
It's a huge honor to have candid conversations like this with photographer I so respect but the ultimate goal of this podcast is to educate and Charmi is an absolute class act at giving us all nuggets of wisdom she's picked up on how important it can be to not simply be an artist, but to respect your art and photography enough to put parameters around it. I think you'll enjoy the conversation and as always I'd love to hear your thoughts over on instagram @mileswittboyer or in my inbox [email protected] or check in at www.mileswittboyer.com

Today's episode is all about action. I'm breaking down five actionable steps you can do right now that will shift your perception and empower you to beat through the barriers that stand in the way of bettering your business. Whether you're a photographer, creative entrepreneur, or just trying to better engage with the world around you these five tips have allowed me to consistently not only achieve the goals I've set for myself, but know how to set those goals high enough in the first place.
The Five Steps
1. Don't Break Rules Until You Know Them.
2. Prioritize your clients memories over your photos.
3. Learn to allocate a little bit of time in each shoot for you.
4. Don’t build your pricing reactively.
5. Keep it simple for as long as you have to.

Phil Porto is a legend in modern wedding photography but it isn’t just his work that we discuss today. From his childhood battle with an aggressive eye cancer and adult battle with a brain tumor to being a full time artist that is both blind in one eye and deaf in the opposite ear Phil’s story is one of finding purpose and overcoming obstacles most of us can’t even imagine. This episode was recorded with him from his Tampa, Florida studio and is an absolute treat as we chat with him about how his story, his perspective, and his love for relationship has permeated into the uber successful photography company he runs in three states.
