Tony: Hello, and welcome to a special episode of the three techs. I’m your host, Tony Tang. And I’m joined tonight by the other two techs. Bob Ferre Baron and Steven Brampton. Hey guys.
Bob: Good evening, Tony and Steven.
Steven: Hi
Tony: guys. Great to see a Steven. Glad you could join us for this. I thought we would do a special episode to talk about.
The last 10 years in photography
specifically, I thought we’d look back at 2010 and kind of see how things have developed for us in terms of our camera gear and equipment, as well as how the industry has changed over the last 10 years to start things off. I thought we’d just go around and talk about what camera were you using in 2010?
And what camera are you using today? Bob? Do you want to start us off here? What camera were you using in 2010?
Bob: Sure. Tony, no problem. So my primary camera and 2010 was the Canon 70. That’s an APS C camera. So not a full frame. DSLR camera, I think 18 megapixel sensor that some other secondary cameras. And the one I’ll kind of mention a little bit is the iPhone four.
There was an interesting transition. That happened fairly quickly in about 2012, I moved completely off of cannon and onto micro four thirds today. Primary standalone. Camera’s the Olympus OMD in one Mark two, which is also all micro four thirds. And it’s got a 20 megapixel sensor. It’s a little bit more sophisticated camera, bigger and heavier.
Not as big as that 70 was. And the main, yeah, secondary camera is an iPhone 11 pro max.
Tony: Okay, so you’ve kind of developed in parallel, right? So you had a interchangeable lens DSLR camera in 2010 that Canon 70, and then you got upgraded to the Olympus.
Bob: Right.
Tony: Right. Which is also an interchangeable lens camera.
But the key difference there is that it’s a mirrorless camera. Right? Right. Absolutely. And then again, yeah, with the smartphone, basically, you just upgraded. And use that as your secondary camera, correct. Okay, great. Well, Steven, how about you? What did you have in 2010? And what are you shooting with today?
Steven: Yeah, so we’ll start with the pocket camera, which we covered in an earlier episode. So the good old Fuji, 70 EXL was my pocket camera. And then my bigger camera in 2010 was a Sony DSC, all won a rather a unique camera. The super zoom. So most super humans use a small sensor. The Sony DSCR one used at APC sensor.
I think it’s a unique combination. And then it had a five times zoom, 24 to one 20, I think F 2.8 at the wide end. I think it was three frames, a second, but only for three frames. So you could take three frames in quick succession, either at the same exposure or bracketed,
