Let's unwind the grind of reality with Pick 73: Slick Flick Pick: Sibling Killing Spree--This Time the Mission is (Da)Mon (Ed Burns Through Germans); (Wehrmacht, I'll see you in Ramelle); (Saving Private Ryan, 1998).

Today, we discuss--the similarities inherent between baseball players and paratroopers: the cigarettes, chewing tobacco, gum and graba**, blowing kisses at their fellow bros, their wives--they miss and the looming fear they neither acknowledge nor outright dismiss, why mortars do not require a launch tube to be devastatingly effective and cinematically spectacular, how of all the violent, explosive and shrapnel laden deaths, a slow ironic knife insertion through the rib cage, intimately and insidiously, is the most lingering and disturbing, when your rifle jams or runs dry of ammo, simply toss your weapon, then helmet and finally pull your pistol and fire it unceremoniously at an antagonistic kraut, the most memorable moment is also the quietest and most subtle: a fraternal bro nod from Mr. Burns through Germans is all that is needed for Damon, and we, to understand his ultimate acceptance into this squad who struggles, slays, and soldiers on, where the fstars are you supposed to run on the beach assault and affront when all of your comrades are getting shot, mortared, drowned or otherwise falling prey to a hidden bunker gun and the intermittent hand shaking of Captain Miller will provide one of the most charming and disarming moments in the flick, but also one of the most quietly alarming.

-Your worthwhile cinephile: Hanks may, or may not, see Ryan on the beach but for the rest of his gifted life, Hanks shadow will loom, resurrected memories will bloom and his final words and influence will, from his grave, reach: Falsetto Prophet and my favorite bicolor creature present for this wartime feature: Othello.
