Concerned citizens come out in mass for the desire for Pickens City Council to hear their plea. Their desire for clarity and direct action was palpable. The perceived misunderstanding regarding the rumors swirling around whether or not Pickens Rec department trophies were given away or trashed were transmitted from the mouth of the audience directly to the ear of Pickens City Council, the mayor, and the city administrator. Everyone behind the bench said they would do their best to get to the bottom of the issue and bring peace to this situation.

On tonight’s episode of Pickens Local we have with Alex Saitta. Alex is a councilman on Pickens County Council. He’ll let us know everything happening regarding roads, mileage hike, highway 11 development, and Blue Ridge broadband.

On tonight‘s episode of Pickens Local we have with us TJ Layton. TJ is running for Pickens county school board and will fill us in with his vision of how he would like to see the board run, the future of schools, and a little personal history.

Monday evening Pickens City Council meeting was packed full of citizens in the gallery. Discussions of a new 4 way stop, water main fixes, police vehicle buy outs, and supportive speech from Tammy Anthony regarding the renaming of the Pickens Rec Center. The renaming will now proceed to a second reading.

(Side note)
Although many thought that there was a “hold back” on the Rec Center to be named after Cheri Anthony…. we don’t believe this was the case. The aim of council was to get policy in place first because there has been no preceding president. Council needed to set the foundation of credential, and parameter of ordinance and policy to rename a city owned building before they move forward. Anything short of this would open Pickens City Council to a barrage of citizens desiring a city owned entity or building named after another citizen. Cheri Anthony has worked for over 20 years with the Rec department and has recently retired.

I.e. … Parameters/Credentials of ordinance policy:
1. Time of service to the city
2. Substantial monetary donation
3. Substantial acreage donation

On tonight‘s episode of Pickens local we have with us Amy Williams. Amy is running for Pickens county school board. She will let us know a little bit about her educational past, what she’s doing now to get on school board, and how she sees the future of the school district.

Alex is an American missionary to Mexico. His home church is Crescent Hill Baptist Church in Pickens Sc. He’s “tent” making technique is coffee sale to help fund and send other missionaries.

Breann will tell us everything that’s going on at behavioral health services Pickens, their activities, her new job, and surrounding events. Tammy will let us know her testimony about her daughter, her diagnosis, drug use, and subsequent death.
