You’re probably familiar with self-help books and talk show hosts who tell you to love yourself, but you may be wondering how to go about that. While your relationship with yourself is the most crucial connection in your life, it’s easy to forget about nurturing it. However, self-love and compassion are too important to neglect because they shape your experiences and relationships with others. Protect your health and wellbeing by making positive changes in the way you think about and treat yourself.

We tend to make much of resolutions as the New Year rolls around—humans have been doing so for 4,000 years —but distilling the prospect of next year into a few tidy affirmations won’t help you realize that vision. Resolutions are statements of intention, while goals are statements of commitment. 

 

Resolution: A firm decision to do or not to do something. 

Goal: The object of a person's ambition or effort; an aim or desired result. Which sounds more appealing?

The clock is counting down and we need to get some things in order. Resolutions will not cut, we need a solid plan and I will offer you tips to get started.

Every now and then, we need to set time for ourselves and enjoy life. It doesn't mean we totally skip out on responsiblities, it just means we need to step away from our (at times) stressful life and take a breather. They say that 50 is the new 40. What they don't say is that while you might act and feel younger at 50 than your mother did even at 40, your body is still 50 years old. Sex can be better after 50 than at any other time in your life. It can involve new adventures, brand new experiences, and the fresh freedom of erotic autonomy ready and ripe for exploration.  

Women need to let go of the idea that after the age of 50, that sex is over. That does not have to be true. Letting go of perceptions of what sexuality is about can help.

What is the difference between a coach and a therapist? 

It seems like at a certain point in our lives, we should know how to be successful be satisfied and get the results we want. As we pass through the milestone numbers and events, we are surprised that this inner confidence and wisdom doesn’t download automatically at age 30, 40, 50 or when we become a Vice President, start our business, launch our non-profit, or have our first baby.

Instead, life circumstances become more complex, the questions we face internally get bigger and the skills and strategies we utilized to succeed in our 20’s don’t work anymore to provide both the progress and peace we desire to experience each day. Practically speaking, we simply don’t know how to live life at this next level, and we can’t figure it out by having a repeated monologue with ourselves on a daily basis.

This is why we need coaches. If you are not familiar with coaching or you’ve categorized it as something for “those other women who [fill-in-the-blank]”, let’s make it clear. Your life is like a computer operating system. It is either working efficiently and effectively toward what you desire or it’s not. When your operating system is functioning well, all of the hardware, software and peripheral components work together with little effort and you reliably see the results you desire.
