Piecing It Together Podcast

On the 57th episode of Piecing It Together, returning co-host David Quinones and I discuss Childish Gambino's 50 minute semi-feature Guava Island, which debuted on Amazon Prime during his Coachella set. Part film, part music video collection, it's a unique vision, as we should all expect from the team behind Atlanta and Childish Gambino's "This Is America" music video. Puzzle pieces include Lemonade, Spirited Away, Inside Llewyn Davis and Sorry To Bother You.

This episode is a special cross-over with our other podcast Bird Road Podcast. Be sure to check out Bird Road at https://www.birdroadpodcast.com and on all the major podcast apps that you can find Piecing It Together on.

As always, SPOILER ALERT for Guava Island (and any other movies we discussed)!

The song at the end of the episode is “I Wanna Get Away," a song from a hip-hop artist named Skydro who I produced years ago. The track reminded me of the vibe in Guava Island so I thought it would be a good fit for the episode. "I Wanna Get Away" is from Skydro's album Success Stories which is available on iTunes, Spotify and all major digital music services.

And most important of all… Keep going to the theater to see new movies!

On the 6th episode of the special episode series called Breaking It Apart, our resident DC and Superman expert Chad Clinton Freeman joins me to discuss Superman: The Movie. Long before Chad became obsessed with Batman V Superman, the original Superman movie was part of a wave of films that basically invented what modern blockbusters would become. Puzzle pieces include Captain Marvel, Prometheus, Ghostbusters and Disaster Movies.

And for those keeping track of the Piecing It Together Podcast, just know that special series and episodes like this will continue to be a part of the future of the show, and we’ll continue figuring out the best way to brand them and tie them in to the overall puzzle theme as we continue doing them. While some special episodes will be a once in a while thing, Breaking It Apart will be a regular occurrence with its own numbering.

As always, SPOILER ALERT for Superman: The Movie (and any other movies we discussed)!

On the 55th episode of Piecing It Together, Joe Black joins me to discuss Harmony Korine's latest piece of cinematic insanity, The Beach Bum, starring Matthew McConaughey, Isla Fisher and Snoop Dogg. Joe called this unconventional but hilarious stoner-comedy "the feel great movie of the decade," and he just might be right. Puzzle pieces include Arthur, Freddy Got Fingered, Tropic Thunder and Young Adult.
