  • When We Hide Our Idols In Our Hearts | Undomesticated

When revival broke out in Ephesus, new believers did something radical: they dragged their magic books into the street and burned them, millions of dollars’ worth by today’s standards. They knew a new Lord meant getting rid of everything that competed with Him.

We might not have silver idols on our shelves, but we have hidden gods in our hearts. In this message from Acts 19, Pastor Justin walks through the three idols that have tempted humanity since the Garden (and that Jesus Himself faced in the wilderness):

🔥 My feelings are God: “I just want to feel good.”
🔥 My possessions are God: “I just want to have more.”
🔥 My reputation is God: “I just want to be admired.”

Every idol promises something only God can give: peace, security, identity, and love. Jesus resisted every temptation because He was secure in the Father’s love. In Christ, you can be too.

This week’s challenge: Name your idol. Confess it to God, then to a trusted person. Then burn it.

    📖 Scriptures: Acts 19:17–27 • 1 John 2:15–16 • Genesis 3 • Matthew 3–4

  • When Pain Tries to Domesticate Our Faith | Undomesticated

Herod killed James with the sword and then arrested Peter. Passover week, sixteen soldiers, one fisherman. The early church had just buried one of its pillars and was about to lose another. Where was God? Why didn’t He stop it?

Pain, loss, and tragedy come for all of us: the diagnosis, the phone call, the divorce papers, the prodigal, the anxiety that won’t lift. In those moments, the enemy doesn’t usually get us to stop believing in God. He gets us to believe in a smaller one. Pain tries to domesticate our faith and shrink it down to something safe that can’t be disappointed again.

In this message from Acts 12 and Daniel 3, Pastor Justin unpacks the faith of Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego and what it looks like to have a complete faith:

🔥 God is ABLE. Pain keeps us trapped in doubt.
🔥 He WILL do it. Pain keeps us in fear of disappointment.
🔥 But EVEN IF He doesn’t. Pain makes our faith only as deep as the outcome we desire.

There’s no formula that keeps us from pain. When we look for one, we end up trying to USE God instead of TRUST God. How much pain you go through doesn’t measure His love for you. His love was proven on the cross.

Herod got the sword, but God got the last word. You can trust a future you can’t know to a God you do know.

  • When You Have a Borrowed Faith | Undomesticated

You can be around God your whole life and never actually know Him.

In Acts 19, seven sons of a Jewish high priest try to cast out a demon “by the Jesus whom Paul proclaims,” and it goes very badly for them. They had the right words, the right family, and the right religious background, but their faith was borrowed. Twenty years earlier, Paul had the same problem. He knew more about God than almost anyone, yet he had never met Him, until the road to Damascus.

In Week 2 of Undomesticated, Pastor Justin Goodson looks at how a secondhand faith becomes firsthand. It moves from knowing about God to actually encountering Him. We’ll see that:

    1. You can experience God’s presence.
    2. You can hear God’s voice through His Word, His Spirit, and His people.

Is your faith yours, or are you living on someone else’s?

    📖 Scripture: Acts 19:11–16 · Acts 9:1–21

About the series: Undomesticated walks through the book of Acts to show how bold, extreme, and countercultural following Jesus was always meant to be, and how we’ve tamed it.

  • Restoring the Foundation of our Faith | Undomesticated

Most people think being a Christian means being nice, living morally, and attending church. The early church understood it as laying down your life for Him. In Week 1 of Undomesticated, we look at Acts 1 and 2 to see what Jesus actually called His followers to be: witnesses, not just attendees.

You will hear what the Gospel really is, why a watered-down version can't produce changed lives, and what it means to hear, believe, and repent.

  • A Better Way: Grace and Truth

If it feels like you have to choose between a God who is impossible to please and a God who is impossible to disappoint, this message is for you. Neither one is real.
In "A Better Way," we look at John 8:2-11 and watch Jesus handle a trap with no safe answer. He never picked a ditch. He gave a woman caught in her sin both hands: grace to make her safe, and truth to make her free.
