Genesis 22:1-18

In the New Testament, Paul says that Abraham was “fully persuaded that God could do what he had promised.” This is called faith. Abraham’s faith was put to the ultimate test in what is called the “Akedah” or binding of Isaac. Abraham proves himself, though he often falters, as one who truly trusts God to provide. Ruth 4:1-17

Ever feel like you are “running on empty”? Naomi knows the feeling, especially as this story begins. From a natural point of view, she has no hope. But all along she has a huge asset, Ruth, who is a person of “hesed” (lovingkindness that clings). She begins by feeling empty, but she ends up feeling full. This story brings hope and encouragement to our “empty” stories.
