Dave goes way back into the archives for this St. Patrick's Day show. Highlighting everything Irish.

After the intro, we get things started with The Irish Rovers.

Next is Anthony James "Lonnie" Donegan MBE (29 April 1931 – 3 November 2002) was a British skiffle singer, songwriter and musician, referred to as the "King of Skiffle", who influenced 1960s British pop and rock musicians.

Pioneers of Country March 6, 2011

Porter and Dolly start things off with “Put it off until Tomorrow” followed by a Jumpin' Bill Carlisle song.

This is just the beginning of a 3 hour broadcast where we expanded our regular playlist to some new comers.

Ned Miller is next, From a Jack to a King.

Next song is by Rex Allen Sr. "Don't Go Near The Indians" is a very complicated song and very taboo for 1962 when it was released. The song is a tale of a young man who disobeys his father's advice stated in the title. When the father finds out that he had developed a relationship with a beautiful Indian maiden (named Nova Lee), he decides to reveal to his son what he had kept secret for so long: The man's biological son was killed by an Indian (as stated in the lyrics) during a clash between the white man and a tribe, and in retaliation, he kidnapped the boy as a young baby and raised him as his son. The other secret: His son cannot marry Nova Lee because she's the boy's biological sister. Dave gives some disturbing details of Rex Allen's death in 1999. 

Johnny Cash, Marty Robbins, and Waylon and Willie follow. All the Big Guns, too many to name are included in this memorable broadcast.

During the second hour, Dave plays a song by the offspring of country music royalty. George Jones and Tammy Wynette's only daughter together, Georgette Jones. Georgette shines by doing a spot-on version of her mama's version of I Don't Wanna Play House.

Reba is inducted into The Country Music Hall of Fame this year. 

This was a true country music broadcast. I hope you enjoy it as much as I did back in 2011.

Golden Age OTR March 12, 2006

This was our second to last broadcast before we decided to retire from regular internet broadcasts in the spring of 2006. 

Dave explained that this broadcast is dedicated to his favorite music, Dave's Fav's!

We begin with The Andrews Sisters - Rum & Coca Cola. 

Next is one of the newest members of the Country Music Hall of Fame, Carl Smith and “Back Up Buddy” (even back then, we always found a place for Real Country Music).

There's plenty of Country Music to come during the remainder of the broadcast, so stay tuned. 

Judy Garland - Somewhere Over the Rainbow is next.

There was an ongoing skit during the last few weeks before Dave retired. It was called “Kid Kirby Rides Again” (Taken from an old time radio drama, The Lone Ranger). So today Dave plays outtakes and deleted segments prior to our last broadcast in two weeks.

Song of The Sewer, Lyrics and music by Art Carney is next. (Up A) Lazy River Lyrics by The Mills Brothers from the “The Star Dust Man” album is next. 

Dave gives a rundown of his old time radio programming during the week on Live365.

Pioneers of Country February 19, 2012

We begin with Hank Williams Sr. Next is Bill Carlisle - No Help Wanted. Next is Connie Francis - Everybody's Somebody's Fool. Some country music is next with Del Reeves - Girl On The Billboard.

Dave mentions a listener from Switzerland – Heinz. He speaks about his family and listening to Pioneers of Country.

A true pioneer is next, Ray Price - Crazy Arms. 

Dave mentions Glen Campbell and his battle with Alzheimer's Disease. He then plays “Gentle on My Mind”. 

Jimmy Buffett and "Margaritaville" is next. Then “Let's Talk Dirty in Hawaiian” by John Prine.

Dave talks about his bout with laryngitis this past week. Kenny Rogers – Lucille is next. 

Dave reads an e-mail from Daphne from Halifax, who would like to hear a song from Jimmy Dean (P.T. 109) or Stomp Those Grapes (Mel Tillis). Dave speaks about watching The Jimmy Deann Show when he was a young lad. Dave plays both the requested songs.

Golden Age OTR  February 26, 2006

This was during our previous format called Golden Age OTR - Music from the Golden Age of Radio, but we made sure to include country music. 

It only took 16 minutes to get a Johnny Cash song on. 

This broadcast was also one of the last few shows just before we retired from full time broadcasting. We later returned as a part time fill-in broadcaster. Dave remembers famous people who were born on February 26th through the years, including one of our regular listener Mike Wagner. Dave mentions the passing of Don Knotts and does a mini tribute to Don Knotts AKA: Barney Fife. 

Dave explains his decision to retire from internet broadcasting, but alludes to returning at some point in the future. Dave speaks of Jack Paar and plays a clip of an interview with Jack in the 1980's.

Dave plays a tune by Moon Mullican - Aubrey Wilson Mullican (March 29, 1909 – January 1, 1967), known professionally as Moon Mullican and nicknamed "King of the Hillbilly Piano Players", was an American country and western singer, songwriter, and pianist. He was associated with the hillbilly boogie style which influenced rockabilly. Jerry Lee Lewis cited him as a major influence on his own singing and piano playing. Mullican once stated, "We gotta play music that'll make them goddamn beer bottles bounce on the table"

A mention of the passing of Darren McGavin (May 7, 1922 – February 25, 2006). 

Kid Kirby Rides Again Part Two. This was Dave's way of rebelling against the discrimination of small broadcasters like Golden Age OTR. Dave plays censored clips from the golden age of radio. They would play today without even a thought. Of course we have got to squeeze in a Polka, or two before we go.

Are the Good Times Really Over

Merle Haggard passed away on April 6, 2016. Not long after Live 365 went out of business, so we never got to do a proper tribute broadcast. That is until now.

During the COVID Pandemic of 2020 and 2021, I got the chance to travel to a place close to home – my attic!

Up there I found a treasure trove of recordings that I had forgotten about. Among them was this several part syndicated broadcast titled “The Merle Haggard Story”. I thought it would be a great tribute to “The Hag” if we rebroadcast this part of Merle's beginnings, and continuing to his mid career popularity.
