Pitch Talk Podcast

Welcome to Coaching with JBK, a vlog/podcast from FA Qualified and Licensed Football Coach Jaymie Bailey aka JBK giving his views on matches and issues from the Mens and Women's game.

This episode looks at the announcement of the 2nd lockdown in England and accusations of gender inequality against the FA, due to all academies at FA WSL level and below being closed until the end of the lockdown, but boys academies being allowed to continue and remain open, even though some of these academies share the same facilities, along with the Women's FA Cup being paused but the Mens equivalent being allowed to continue..

On this weeks 'Five Minutes With Da Gee', DaGman takes a look at the Premier Leagues proposal to the EFL 'The Bigger Picture'. However he doesn't spend to much time discussing the proposal itself, in fact, DaGman actually has some ideas of his own which he chose to share.

Is taking the knee before football matches just a token gesture, or will it actually help usher in real change in the game?

In this episode Straight Shootin' LJA discusses the issue of football clubs 'Taking a knee' in solidarity with the Black Lives Matter movement and whether or not it has become just a token gesture, especially after some very enlightened comments by Les Ferdinand about why QPR players didn't take a knee before a match v Coventry City in September 2020.

SSLJA discusses the theory that football (especially the Premier League) has damaged its own reputation and has jumped on the Black Lives Matter bandwagon to salvage PR, when real change needs to happen to enable racial equality in football, especially at the top levels of the game.

This Pitch Talk Special Feature segment focuses on Mesut Ozil and his situation with Arsenal FC. We discuss him being frozen out of the team by being left out of not only Arsenal's 2020/2021 Europa League squad, but also their Premier League squad for the same season.

We discuss potential reasons for him being frozen out including a tongue in cheek reason, but also his views on China (relating to his muslim faith) and Ozil not producing great performances consistently.

Hear what our co-hosts Straight Shootin' LJA, Da Gman, JBK & Nathan Arsenal go into a deep dive on how the issue can be resolved, if it's a personal problem and if Ozil is entitled to just keep cashing his pay cheques but not playing, even with the current Coronavirus pandemic and the financial circumstances around the club with Arsenal making redundancies such as their mascot Gunnersaurus.

Should dangerous tackles (whether intentional or not) be punished retrospectively like dives?

In this episode Straight Shootin' LJA discusses the issue of bad tackles in the Premier League with special focus on Jordan Pickford and his awful tackle on Virgil Van Dijk that left the Liverpool defender with a season threatening ACL injury.

SSLJA looks at the issue of reckless tackles (giving a few examples) and player safety from a players perspective (drawing upon his own experience in the amateur leagues) and how a bad tackle (whether intentional or not) can very easily end a career, let alone a season and more should be done to punish offenders to help eradicate it from football.
