A hockey story Wednesday raised the hopes of Penguins fans. Canadian sports network TSN reported Mario Lemieux and Ron Burkle were “investigating the possibility” of reacquiring the team from Fenway Sports Group. But FSG quickly released a statement saying it wants to keep control of the team but is interested in an investment from a small, passive partner.

Pittsburgh Police are on the scene of a SWAT situation in Beechview. A man is barricaded inside a vehicle in the 13-hundred block of Rutherford Avenue with negotiators on the scene. Police are asking the public to avoid the area.

Practice rounds start today at Oakmont for this week's US Open. 200-thousand people are expected to attend and that means planning ahead if you're going. To reduce traffic, the USGA is encouraging fans to park at Hartwood Acres or Monroeville Mall and ride shuttle buses to and from the golf course. Former Oakmont Pro Bob Ford gave the organizers high praise on the Big K Morning Show.

More than 130 shuttles are running continuously from 5:30 a.m. to 9 p.m. There will be no parking in either Oakmont or Plum. Only residents with approved parking tags are allowed to do that and violators will be towed.

President Donald Trump is holding a rally in West Mifflin later today to celebrate Japan-based Nippon Steel's planned partnership with US Steel. When the presidnet made the announcement, he said the deal will keep the iconic steelmaker under American control. West Mifflin Mayor Chris Kelly shared his reaction on the Big K Morning Show. The rally at US Steel’s Irvin Works starts with remarks from US Steel's CEO and Nippon Steel's vice chairman. The President arrives at Allegheny County Airport at 4:35 and is expected to speak at 5.

Put the phones down. Changes are coming to Pennsylvania's distracted driving laws. The law is named after Paul Miller, who was killed when a truck driver smashed into his car while reaching for his phone. State police say starting June 5th, they will begin to enforce the law that makes it illegal to have a phone in your hand while you're driving....or at a red light or stop sign. Triple A's Jim Garrity said at a Friday news conference, their data shows checking the phone at a light is just as dangerous. State police will hand out written warnings for one year before imposing 50 dollar fines, which will also include court and other costs.

A tornado ripped the roof off a Butler County salt barn Wednesday afternoon. On the Big K Morning Show, National Weather Service meteorologist Tim Surmac said there are reports of damage in the Finleyville area in Washington County and southern Allegheny County of siding pulled off buildings and uprooted trees. Another Weather service team will go to those areas as well

Corey O'Connor is the winner of Pittsburgh's Democratic primary, defeating incumbent Mayor Ed Gainey by about 33-hundred votes, 53 to 47 percent.

Police and the FBI are investigating antisemitic fliers handed out in Squirrel Hill. One of the fliers posted on social media read, "Every single aspect of the Jewish Talmud is Satanic." Police say a number of different fliers were placed in plastic baggies, weighted down with corn kernels and thrown from a car in Squirrel Hill. Police say the suspect is a redheaded man. Shawn Brokos of the Jewish Federation of Pittsburgh says a white supremacist group is behind them....and now they hope technology will identify the specific individuals. She says for this to happen just blocks from the Tree of Life massacre is daunting.

Penn State's Board of Trustees is holding a public meeting next week and the topic is campus closures. The public meeting will focus on a proposal to close seven of the university’s Commonwealth Campuses including three in the Pittsburgh region. The announcement of the meeting came after the board of trustees met in executive session Thursday morning after news broke prematurely around which campuses are proposed for closure. Those campuses include DuBois, Fayette, Mont Alto, New Kensington, Shenango, Wilkes-Barre and York. The board will meet at 5 p.m. next Thursday. The meeting will be livestreamed, with the link and agenda information to be posted at trustees.psu.edu.

Dick’s Sporting Goods is buying struggling footwear chain Foot Locker for about 2.4 billion dollars. The sports retailer based in Findlay Township expects to run Foot Locker as a standalone unit. Foot Locker offers Dick's a huge real estate footprint with about 24-hundred retail stores in 20 countries. The acquisition would also give Dick’s more bargaining power with national brands. Dick’s anticipates closing on the Foot Locker deal in the second half of the year. The transaction needs approval from Foot Locker shareholders. It's the second buyout of a major footwear company this year. Skechers is being purchased by 3G Capital for more than 9 billion dollars.
