Pittsburgh Regional Transit has approved a budget calling for service cuts and a fare hike.

The PRT Board today approved its new budget....and the 539 million dollar spending plan includes the 35 percent service reduction and nine percent fare increase that had been the subject of multiple hearings. Those cuts may still be averted, though. PRT CEO Katherine Kelleman says the budget approved today is to meet a mandated deadline....and she remains hopeful that a long term solution could be in place. Transit funding is a key part of Governor Shapiro's budget proposal...including 40 million dollars for PRT. However, state lawmakers say the chances of getting the state's budget passed by Monday's deadline are slim to none. In part, because Harrisburg is trying to determine what it will be getting from Washington as the President's so called Big Beautiful Bill is still being considered by the Senate.
