Violist Penny Brill joined WQED-FM's Jim Cunningham after tonight's concert at the Kuupelsaal in Hannover, Germany.  Penny gives her thoughts on playing the Brucker Symphony No. 9 as a touring piece; what parts of the city she has visited; and what her daughters are up to.  

Violinist Lorien Benet Hart joins WQED-FM's Jim Cunningham in this report in Hannover, Germany.  Lorien talks about tonight's concert with Igor Levit playing the Mozart Piano Concerto No. 22. She also talks about the experience of playing at the Elbphilharmonie on Saturday night.  

WQED-FM's Jim Cunningham spoke with PSO Principal Tuba Craig Knox, who hopes to catch up with the premiere tuba maker on this tour.  Micah Wilkison remembers seeing the PSO perform in Berlin and hoping one day he'd be on that stage performing with the PSO....a dream coming true on this tour.  Jim also talks with Timo Buckow, Programmer for the Rheingau Music Festival, who talks about his admiration of the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra.  Finally, he chats with Dr. Thomas Martin Salb, Program Director of ARTE TV, who gives Jim his impressions on the first half of the Frankfurt concert.  

Just before the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra took the stage at the Elbphilharmonie in Hamburg, Germany, Jim Cunningham had a conversation with Principal Contrabassoon James Rodgers.  They gave a description of walking along the Elb River; seeing the area where the Beatles played; the performance last night with Igor Levit in Frankfurt; and what he's looking forward to at tonight's concert in Hamburg.  

WQED-FM's Jim Cunningham checks in moments after the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra concluded it's first concert of their 2019 European Tour.  Jim spoke with violinist Dylan Naroff who is filling in with the violin section.  Dylan talks about his teacher, performing with the Pittsburgh Symphony, the enthusiastic crowd reaction to their concert tonight and much more.

The Symphony enjoyed a day off in Frankfurt before their concert on Friday October 25th.  Jim Cunningham had a chance to get some general thoughts on the tour from Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra President and CEO Melia Tourangeau.  He also talked to pianist Igor Levit and Music Director Manfred Honeck about why the Mozart Piano Concerto 22 and Rachmaninoff Rhapsody on a Theme of Paganini were chosen for the tour.
