Alzheimer’s disease and dementia gradually diminish a person’s ability to communicate as well as the capacity to manage one’s personal safety. Some simple examples are loss of judgment when touching a hot stove or ironing board. Today Susan Farris of the James L. West Alzheimer's Center talks to us about safety on Plaid Radio.
The James L. West Alzheimer's Center is a not-for-profit organization founded on the love and compassion of Eunice P. West, who witnessed the devastating effects of Alzheimer’s disease on her husband, Fort Worth business leader and philanthropist James L. West. As a caregiver, Mrs. West understood the hardships families face, at a time when services for people with dementia were not commonly available.
Since 1993, the James L West Center has provided residential care, adult day care, medical professional training, and community outreach services to North Texans battling Alzheimer’s disease and related dementia disorders.
As part of the James L. West Series for caregivers, today we are going to focus our conversation on Understanding Different Care Options for Dementia Patients.
