In this episode of Plan A, No Plan B with Mentor Pllana, we explore why wood is one of the most powerful tools we have to address climate change through the built environment.

A tree grows using the power of the sun. While growing, it absorbs carbon dioxide and releases oxygen. If it dies in a forest or burns, that carbon is released back into the atmosphere. But when wood is used in buildings, its carbon is stored for decades - even centuries.

This makes wood unique among building materials. It not only reduces emissions, but also actively stores carbon. One cubic meter of wood can store approximately one ton of CO₂.

By contrast, concrete and steel alone are responsible for around 8% of global carbon emissions. To meet climate targets and solve the housing challenge at the same time, we must rethink what we build with - and how we build.
