In a potential development that could send ripples through the nudist community of Southern California, Olive Dell Ranch has been listed for sale. However, the club’s general manager insists that the long-standing Riverside County nudist resort is not actually for sale, leaving some in the community concerned and scratching their heads. This confusing news comes on the heels of another announcement just last week regarding DeAnza Springs Resort instituting a clothing-mandatory policy. Should Olive Dell Ranch hypothetically be purchased by a new owner uninterested in running a nudist camp, Glen Eden Sun Club could become the only family nude resort left in the region.

The history of organized nudism and naturism in Tennessee began much earlier than one might imagine.  Nudists familiar with the state can likely identify Tennessee’s trio of lodges: Timberline Lodge (1964 to 2003), Rock Haven Lodge (1969 to present), and Cherokee Lodge (1993-2014).  But several nudist groups, some with unimproved camping areas, were operating in the state long before Timberline opened. This three-part written history, the first of its kind to our knowledge, explores the under-appreciated realm of Tennessee nudism, and uncovers the pioneering figures and significant groups that have decisively influenced the national nudism narrative, shedding new light on an often-overlooked aspect of American social history. 🪐

I’ve never seen anything quite like the Monster of Camp Sunshine. On paper it makes some sort of sense, but the execution is so outrageous that it feels like my brain is melting every time I watch it. The COVID-19 pandemic ushered in an unexpected shift in societal habits, one of which was a surge in the practice of home nudism, or domestic naturism. While being naked at home is nothing new, this basic practice—characterized by embracing comfort and freedom within one's home environment—has become a novel way for people to redefine their relationship with their bodies and their living spaces. For most, being nude is a passive, even furtive thing, but when done mindfully, domestic naturism can become a practice, not unlike yoga or meditation, that has the potential to enrich your health and happiness. This month, my figure drawing group Defining Bodies will be seven years old. The group’s setup and membership have changed a LOT in those seven years, far from our humble Facebook origins, but I think today we’re stronger than we’ve ever been. As of this writing, I just recently finished taking down our first ever group art show, and am counting down the days before we get to meet up again on a private farm where we can be nude and make art outdoors. 🪐
