  • Curly-Headed Fish Hoovers
Lost to the UK since Roman times, according to Ben Macdonald - conservation writer, field director in wildlife television and keen naturalist - the enormous Dalmatian pelican might once again be spotted (no pun intended) gliding across our marshes and wetlands.  Along with John Arbon from WWT’s Barnes Wetland Centre, Ben describes the dramatic decline of the bird population in the UK over the past 2000 years and the hopes for the future rebirding of the country.  Pockets of diverse wildlife as seen on John’s patch at Barnes could spread and be re-established.  Not a flight of fancy but an exciting, realisable vision.

  • Local Fish For Dinner
Fancy  "....a fishy on a little dishy, when the boat comes in"?  But, if the boats aren't going out, there won't be any fish! Catch our Fish for Dinner podcast produced by Planet Pod for The Blue Marine Foundation and hear how they are supporting sustainable fishing to ensure the fish caught in native waters are getting to customers while Covid 19 has shut down the routes to market, keeping the fishing industry afloat. And if that's not enough puns, maybe Chef Mark Hix will reel you in as he shares his Tshirt (and some recipes for unusual fish) with us as well.

Author and walker Peter Fiennes joins Alastair Driver from Rewilding Britain and Amanda to discuss how landscape shapes imagination and how rewilding today is about man and wildlife living in harmony together, not about resetting the baseline or turning the clock back.

  • Fashion in a time of Covid
Join Amanda and co-host Beatrice as they talk to writer and fashion consultant Aja Barber alongside Sarah Ditty, Global Policy Director at Fashion Revolution about the future of fashion post Covid-19

The fashion industry is one of the biggest contributors to climate change. From the water-heavy production processes, the carbon emissions and the huge amount of waste it produces, with 300,000 tonnes of clothing sent to landfill in the UK in 2016. The current model of mass production and rapid turnaround plays into the consumer’s constant desire for something new and is having detrimental effects on both people and planet.  We ask who bears the cost of the clothes we wear and the exploitative nature of the fashion industry,  why it needs to change and what Covid-19 means for the industry and its workers.  We also explore the responsibilities and brands in considering the environmental and ethical consequences of our actions and how we can call for change.  This episode is going live in #Digitalfashionrevolutionweek, a week that commemorates the Rana Plaza factory collapse in 2013 in Bangladesh. This tragically killed thousands of workers and exposed the horrific working conditions of garment factories supplying clothing retailers in the UK and around the world.

  • Learning from the Ice
What can studying core samples from over 2.5m years ago tell us about the likely impact of climate change today?

Join us as we talk with climate science expert Professor Martin Siegert about his work to investigate what conditions were like on earth during the Pliocene era (5.3 to 2.6 million years ago) - the last time atmospheric carbon emissions were around 400ppm for a prolonged period.  We explore what conditions at that time can tell us about what we might encounter if we don't reduce our current levels of carbon.
