Planted in the Psalms

Slander. Lies. False Testimony. David is under verbal attack and turns to God as his only hope in trouble. He flees to the Lord for refuge, examines his own heart, and leaves judgment in the Lord's hands. When David remembers God’s righteous and just character, his heart overflows with praise and thanksgiving.

Have you ever been weary from suffering? Weary from crying? Weary from life? David has. In his hour of intense darkness, he calls on the Lord to be gracious to Him. The Lord hears and fills David with a defiant confidence. May we also be filled with confidence that the Lord hears our prayers and will fight for His people.

Charles Spurgeon commentary on Psalm 6 - If you relate to this Psalm and want to meditate on it more - I highly recommend this commentary. Spurgeon explains Psalm 6 better than I ever could!

When troubles increase, where will our eyes be fixed? David cries out to the Lord and then fixes his eyes on God and His unchanging character. He remembers God's holiness & justice towards sinners and contrasts it with God's steadfast love & kindness to His repentant people. This fills David with joy as He delights in God's special protection & blessing over the righteous.

In seasons of trial, where do we turn? When David recounts past blessings, remembers his identity, and meditates on truth, he is filled with God's joy and peace. This psalm presents a pattern that is instructive for followers of Christ to draw near to Him and dwell on the Biblical truth in tough times.
