That’s the conclusion of a new study published in Psychological Science, which reveals just how terrible formulas can be at predicting compatibility between singles. Researchers created and tested a standard questionnaire-based algorithm, similar to what most dating sites use.

Some people, and especially critics, never learn that you don’t have to live like a referee. Since Hugh Hefner’s passing on September 27, media has been rife with opinion pieces that either praise the icon for helping to liberate women as a leader of the sexual revolution or accuse him of demeaning women by treating them like sex objects. Few of the articles consider the opinions of the women who worked with Hefner, as if their ideologies are secondary to his. As if their posing for Playboy was not an autonomous decision made by and for themselves.

Marijuana is legal to some extent in 30 states. The majority of these laws allow use for medicinal purposes only. Erectile dysfunction among young men is at an all-time high. Research conducted by the Naval Medical Center in San Diego recently concluded that young men who prefer porn over sexual encounters (and there are many, unbelievably) are unable to perform when the opportunity arises. “We are seeing a younger demographic of men, 18 to 35, that are experiencing erectile dysfunction; that’s pretty young for a male to experience,” sex therapist Dr. Morgan Francis told media.

Back in May, real estate tycoon Tim Gurner took a jab at millennials suggesting that they’re unable to buy homes because they buy too much fair-trade coffee and avocado toast instead. Needless to say, that’s not true. An avocado toast calculator (yes, it exists) revealed that it would take almost 5,000 orders of the West Coast breakfast specialty to purchase a median-valued home in the United States, which is insane, if not impossible (that’s 13 orders a day for a year).

Dating profiles are like resumes: nobody tells the entire truth on them. Of course, I say this with hyperbolic intent. There have to be some people who tell the truth on dating sites, right? Well, according to new research from mobile insurance provider Insurance2go, which surveyed 1,000 online daters, the answer is no, not really. Their research found that 72 percent of singles lie on their dating profile. Almost one-third of digital daters lie about their true age.
