But in David's Jerusalem (as this psalm makes plain), character was a non-negotiable for those who wished to serve in the king's regime. And surely it is all the more so in the kingdom of David's Son, Jesus! Pondering the words of the angel in Luke 2.10 – “I bring you good news of great joy which will be for all the people” (NASB®, emphasis added) – and then placing the American church (myself included) into the shoes of a shepherd at Bethlehem … and pondering how prone we are to overlook those around us, not seeing them as Jesus sees.

At the end of a long night, and a long nine months, Mary finally had time to look back at all that had happened, and and she "treasured all these things, pondering them in her heart." Pull up a stool next to the manger in Bethlehem as we seek to do the same in this message.
