I recently had the honor of talking to The Maestro, a true international man of mystery. A man who presciently fled the USSR seemingly just before she fell. He is a graduate of the prestigious former Leningrad Polytechnic Institute, a holder of several patents relating to atomic measurements of time. He is a master of sport in Judo, a master of sport in sambo and one of the most interesting guys walking. Please Allow me to introduce The Maestro, Dmitri Zaitsev.

If you’ve ever spent time around The Maestro you know he always has an outrageous story, a philosophical bend or a hidden lesson. I have another recorded chat with the Maestro that’s a bit less organized and more off the cuff but goes a little deeper into some of the topics we touch on here. I’ll consider releasing that episode in the future.

He’s a former Division 1 athlete and  an aficionado  of the perfect Guinness pour.

I messed up the audio a bit trying to learn my new Rodecaster Pro, think I got her dialed in now.

Today we got to hang with Joe Lauzon. He’s 27 time UFC veteran, winner of 15 UFC  Performance of the Night bonuses, and one of the OG’s of a constantly growing New England MMA scene. He’s been fighting professionally since 2004, he’s the co-owner of Lauzon MMA and he’s only had one sip of alcohol in his entire life. Joe won his UFC debut as a 7-1 underdog by KO’ing former champ Jens Pulver. We probably could’ve gotten more in depth on some issues and talked for hours but I wanted to be courteous to a man with 2 small kids on a Friday afternoon. I wish we got to debate cheeseburgers. Another time, perhaps.

Today I caught up with an interesting cat. He’s an  amateur historian and the first Irish born fighter in UFC history. He is now a proud U.S. citizen, and unapologetic Trumper, 2nd amendment advocate and cigar aficionado.

People who emigrate from other countries have a perspective I can never have so I’m always pumped to hear what they have to say, especially in these strange times.

We spent a lot of time talking about Irish history because that fascinates me, but we also touch on the state of MMA, playing the trumpet and what the hell does the term plastic paddy mean.

Paul  Karger runs a hedge fund and knows a shit load about market economics. He co-founded TwinFocus in 2006 and leads the firm’s direct investing efforts in private equity, venture capital and real estate. I wanted to learn what this whole Gamestop fiasco is about so I called Paul. Just to have some skin in the game, I scored some GME tendies. I didn't do it to outsmart people who invest for a living, but to feel a little of the excitement that was oozing out of Reddit. For a few schekels I could be a participant in the topic I'm discussing, rather than a passive observer posting about it on Instagram.

Prior to founding TwinFocus, Paul founded The Karger Group within UBS Financial Services where he led a team that advised select institutions and high-net-worth individuals.

Paul holds the designation of Chartered Financial Analyst and is a member of the Boston Security Analysts Society, CFA Institute, and the Investment Management Consultants Association. He earned his CIMA at the University of Pennsylvania’s Wharton School of Finance and holds a B.S. in Manufacturing Engineering from Boston University. Paul was the recipient of the Outstanding Alumni Award in 2012 from Boston University.

We discuss the current GME bubble, the perception of the little guy vs. huge institutional investors, how the game may or may not be rigged, and why stealing and pawning car stereos isn’t much different than shorting a stock.
