It's the season finale!
Welcome back to another episode of Plot on the Rocks, where we pour a glass and dive into our latest read! This week, we are discussing Vampires of El Norte by Isabel Cañas, a blend of historical fiction, romance, and supernatural horror set along the Rio Grande during a crucial point in Mexican and American history.
In this episode, we follow Nena and Néstor, two childhood sweethearts reunited years after a terrifying creature attacked Nena and tore them apart. As tension rises along the Mexican border, they must team up to protect their home from both human invaders and monstrous nightmare creatures that hunt in the dark. We break down the incredible worldbuilding, the sizzling rekindled romance, and the spine-chilling suspense that kept us hooked from start to finish.

But Y'ALL know we don't shy away from the uncomfortable conversations! This week we're talking about Daggermouth by H.M. Wolfe. There's been some controversy surrounding this author and we're talking about it ALL.
We gave it a fair read and we're discussing the book for what it is, as well as the deeper topics of society, racial structures, wealth disparity, and how dystopian fiction doesn't feel so far fetched nowadays. As you know, we do a lot of opinions over here and honesty has NEVER been one of our weak points, so be warned!
Now go on and grab your drinky drink and join us for this in depth girl talk!

Come on in here and sit down, chile. Whew.
This week we're talking about a book that's very heavy but when a story like this gets told- you take it in! The Reformatory by Tananarive Due, the queen herself, follows the story of a young boy caught in the web of his town's dark history and his survival of that town's infamous school for boys. This is historical fiction meets paranormal thriller and it's in a league of its own!
This is based on a true story, so trigger warnings abound! We're discussing themes of white supremacy, racial violence, and similar topics, so please listen with care. This is probably the hardest episode we've recorded thus far. But the conversation is very important.
So grab your drink (you gonna it, honey) and let's get into it.

Let me ask y'all something- what would you do if your BIGGEST rival ended up in the desk right beside you every day... but they happen to be cute as hell and ride a motorcycle?? This week, we're talking about Outdrawn by Deanna Gray, a slow-burn, enemies-to-lovers sapphic romance novel and babyyyy, these ladies had to fight for this thing!
We're talking office romance, family dynamics, the boundaries we set, and how we feel about the enemies to lovers trope! There's a lot of drama happening here and we were living for it!

This week, we diving into the real story behind the crazy title and it got REALLY deep, SUPER fast. We're doing a lot of laughing and a lot of shaking our heads in this episode, but we also explored some really heavy but important subjects.
