Plot Twist Book Podcast

Don’t have time for a reread? Need a quick and slightly unhinged recap? Join Melle & Ky as we yap about Shield of Sparrows by Deveny Perry!

Book 2: Rites of The Starling releases in 2 weeks! (April 7!)

Shield of Sparrows is a slow-burn, high-stakes romantasy perfect for fans of Sarah J. Maas and Rebecca Yarros-where enemies become lovers, monsters stalk a cursed realm, and a forgotten princess finds the strength to tear off her crown and become the warrior she was never meant to be. The gods sent monsters to the five kingdoms to remind mortals they must kneel. I've spent my life kneeling—to their will and to my father's. As a princess, my only duty is to wear the crown and obey the king. I was never meant to rule. Never meant to fight. And I was never supposed to be the daughter who sealed an ancient treaty with her own blood. But that changed the fateful day I stepped into my father's throne room. The day a legendary monster hunter sailed to our shores. The day a prince ruined my life. Now I'm crossing treacherous lands beside a warrior who despises me as much as I despise him-bound to a future I didn't choose and a husband I barely know. Everyone wants me to be something I'm not—a queen, a spy, a sacrifice. But what if I refused the role chosen for me? What if I made my own rules? What if there's power in being underestimated? And what if —for the first time—I reached for it?

Yes, there will be spoilers!

An enemies-to-lovers romantic fantasy perfect for fans of Penn Cole, Sable Sorensen, and Rebecca Yarros. In the Kingdom of Kalyn, humans are good for two things. Hunting and owning. Adina Barron was bred to serve the ruling-class vampires. Owned from birth by Blackwood House, her only desire has been to keep herself and her sister safe. But Adina harbors a dark secret. She possesses the power to turn her blood into a deadly poison that kills vampires. An ability she swore never to use until she learned that her sister was dying. After discovering that vampire venom can extend life, Adina has spent the last year risking exposure and execution to hunt and kill the creatures she was born to obey. But desperation leads to foolish mistakes, and when she accidentally reveals her power to a mysterious stranger, she is forced to make a difficult choice. Use her ability to assassinate the Crown Prince or watch her sister die. The decision is easy, and it's not long before Adina manages to use her wits and cunning to embed herself into the prince's life. But making the kill is not as simple as she anticipates, especially when fate seems hell-bent on drawing the pair together. And when whispers of a war start to arise, Adina realizes that there may be bigger issues than just saving her sister. But time is closing in, and soon she will be forced to make a choice. Her sister? Her kingdom? Or her heart? Because one thing is clear, she cannot save them all. This is book one in Charlene's slowburn, romantic fantasy series, Blood Vows.

by Callie Hart!

We both absolutely loved this book and are so excited for Brimstone!

Do not open the gate. In the land of the unforgiving desert, there isn't much a girl wouldn't do for a glass of water. Twenty-four-year-old Saeris Fane is good at keeping secrets. No one knows about the strange powers she possesses, or the fact that she has been picking pockets and stealing from the Undying Queen's reservoirs for as long as she can remember. But a secret is like a knot. Sooner or later, it is bound to come undone. When Saeris comes face-to-face with Death himself, she inadvertently re-opens a gateway between realms and is transported to a land of ice and snow. The Fae have always been the stuff of myth, of legend, of nightmares... but it turns out they're real, and Saeris has landed herself in the middle of a centuries-long conflict that might just get her killed. The first of her kind to tread the frozen mountains of Yvelia in over a thousand years, Saeris mistakenly binds herself to Kingfisher, a handsome Fae warrior, who has secrets and nefarious agendas of his own. He will use her Alchemist's magic to protect his people, no matter what it costs him... or her. Death has a name. It is Kingfisher of the Ajun Gate. His past is murky. His attitude stinks. And he's the only way Saeris is going to make it home. Be careful of the deals you make, dear child. The devil is in the details...

Blurb: Two hundred years ago, when mortals hunted the fea toward extinction, the Ancients sundered the veils of Terr, fracturing their world into five realms. Many fled beyond the Veil of War, but not all who remained did so with benevolent intentions. Shivaria is an elite assassin of the crown, forged for a single purpose: to end the life of the Feyn King. Upon foreign shores, she discovers a land steeped in power, forgotten truths, and whispered legends that defy everything she was taught. When she finds herself bound to the king's general, sought by the fea in the northern woods, and uncovering the hidden truths of her world, she is thrust into a choice that will define her: follow the path she has always known, or endure a breaking that will set her on a course destined by the Fates.

We’re chatting about The Scars Within (Twisted Thorn #1) by Ang T. Dalton!

One girl. Two brothers. A school built on secrets. And a bond that could burn the world down. Scarlet Thorne has been broken. Burned alive and survived. Now she's a wild card with forbidden magic and a dragon with no memories-enrolled in Mageia War College only because she has nowhere else to go. She's supposed to stay quiet. Stay controlled. Stay away from too much power.

Too bad control has never been her strong suit. She never expected to find purpose. Or friendship. Or to fall for two brothers with secrets of their own. Caught between the welcoming, charming Shayde and the unpredictable, dangerous Rhodes Wylder, Scarlet must guard her heart as fiercely as her life. Falling for either of them would be a mistake. Falling for both? That could be deadly. But love isn't the only fire rising. Someone is hunting Scarlet from within the college walls. Professors are dying. Whispers swirl that she is the one destined to destroy them all. And the more Scarlet digs for truth, the more her own darkness threatens to break free. Her magic is illegal. Her past is a secret. And her heart? Already split in two. As dark truths unravel and betrayal cuts deeper than any blade, Scarlet must confront the trauma she's buried, the power she never asked for, and a fate that may cost her everything. The Scars Within is a spellbinding romantasy packed with slow-burn heat, found family, snarky banter, and a dangerous romance that scorches through every page.
