Lofanitani Aisea Ball identifies as Modoc Klamath Black and Tongan.  She is a senior at the University of Oregon.  She was born and raised in Portland but is very proud of her Pasifika heritage.  Lofanitani is a Resident Assistant at the University of Oregon, Mills International Center Resource Consultant, Climate Justice Warrior and more recently a graduate of the inaugural cohort of Pacific Pawa Up Fellowship 2020.

Brutal Lives is a new bold drama series that showcases the Tongan culture in a South Auckland contemporary setting and combines a traditional Tongan world view of the spirit world through the Tala Fekau. The six-part web series, Brutal Lives – Mo’ui Faingata’a is the first Tongan bilingual drama funded by New Zealand On Air as part of its Pasifika and Asian Storytellers initiative.

Jason Manumu’a is a graduate of South Seas Film & TV School. He has been in numerous stage plays and is the Creative Director of the Royal Polynesia Fashion Week. 

Jason has held many roles in front and behind the camera and is currently working on a new play. He was also the first Polynesian actor to be accepted into the highly competitive, Actor’s Programme, a one-year intensive, industry-related course for actors. 

Brutal Lives film premiered last night and Jason Manumu’a plays the role of Salesi.

Brutal Lives – Mo’ui Faingata’a is a six-part web series available in the Tongan and English language funded by New Zealand On Air as part of its Pasifika and Asian Storytellers initiative.

Created and written by Vela Manusaute and Sandra Kailahi, the story was developed with the help of Michael Bennett. The series follows former prize-fighter, Soane ‘The Shark’ Valu who had the world at his feet until he lost it all. After Soane’s father dies,  he reluctantly returns to South Auckland from America to face his estranged sister, the three kids he left behind, and break the curse of his ancestors. She Leads Fale Alea 'O Tonga which is an annual, female-led program that gives the opportunity for up to 30 young Tongan women and girls, between the ages of 16-34 to voice their perspectives on matters of national, and regional interest in Parliament settings.
