Pati Umaga is a disability advocate and sits on a number of advisory group boards involved with disabilities.  He is the Senior Pasefika Engagement Adviser for the Royal Commission of Enquiry into Historical Abuse in State Care and Faith Based Institutions, recipient of the inaugural Creative New Zealand Arts Pasifika Toa Award 2019, Inductee into Attitude TV Awards Hall of Fame 2019 and Awarded a Queens Service Medal for Services to the Pacific Community in 2012.
