Don is of Tongan and Māori descent, he has familial ties to Vava'u, Tonga and affiliated to Ngāti Ruapani & Ngāti Kahungunu. In his career, he has long advocated and supported New Zealand-Pasifika individuals and communities.

Prior to PCF, Don was the Head of Corporate Partnerships at the Auckland Tourism Events & Economic Development (ATEED) where he led the commercialisation of the organisation's economic development programme and managed stakeholder engagements focused on amplifying the Pacific community's presence in Auckland.
