This week Dr. Cruse discusses continued rise in cases in our area. He reminds us we should all be masking at the store.  He reviews the importance of students masking at school and that really there is no medical reason your child cannot mask at school. Don’t bother asking for a mask exemption. They don’t do them. Finally he reviews the very shaky data on benefit of ivermectin, an anti-parasite drug used mainly in animals, and the dangers of ivermectin and ivermectin overdose.  If it does have benefit, it is small and does not nearly approach the proven benefit and safety of vaccines. “You are not a horse. You are not a cow. Seriously y’all stop it.”

This week Dr. Cruse talks about the approval of the Pfizer vaccine, and the largest safety study ever done on a vaccine which was done on the Pfizer vaccine and published in the New England Journal of Medicine last week. The safety and effectiveness of the vaccine is remarkable and it is 300 times safer than COVID. He discusses vaccine mandates in industries across the US. He also discusses the school mask mandate and the evidence of both efficacy and safety of face masks. Be happy that the schools are mandating masks and get your vaccine if you’re eligible.

This week Dr. Cruse talks about breakthrough infections, explains why the rate of breakthrough infections is difficult to determine but that hospitalizations and deaths due to Covid in the vaccinated it’s still rare. He discusses why we get breakthrough infections and that this was expected. He also discusses the CDC’s recommendation that people with moderate to severe immunocompromise are recommended to get a third dose of an mRNA vaccine and explains who this applies to. He also discusses the importance of getting 12 to 18-year-olds vaccinated before return to school and that masks should be worn during school based upon our current numbers.  He urges everyone eligible to get vaccinated so that both life and school can return to normal.

This week Dr. Cruse corrects a mistake he made last week saying that Wayne County was in substantial transmission category. He did the math wrong, but three days later we were there anyway. He talks about the impact of the Delta variant on his home state of Louisiana and about overwhelmed hospitals turning away patients.  He discusses how misinformation has led many people to not get the vaccine and to get sick and die. He talks about increasing numbers here in Wayne County and the importance of everyone masking indoors. He also discusses that if you’re vaccinated and are exposed you should be tested. He updates information on times that they are at the fair giving free vaccines and that all three vaccines are available there. Come out to the fair and get your vaccine or at least get your questions answered.
