It's October, and the witching weather is slowly upon us. Or it could be the wind whipping up from Outpost 31 in Antarctica as we're about to celebrate one of the seminal horror/sci-fi films of our lifetimes: John Carpenter's 'The Thing' (1982).
There's not much more to say about the brilliance of Carpenter's masterpiece (to us, anyway), but in the spirit of creepy and spooky, we thought it was well past time to show it some love. It's also one of those movies that's synonymous with VHS rentals, and if you're like us, you rented it repeatedly to study all its nooks and crannies.
We STILL do to this day: it has story, chills, great acting and characters, and the most extraordinary physical effects of its time, but there's still a little nugget or two to catch the first time. We even give some time to the ill-fated 2011 'prequel' Thing, and suggest a back-to-back viewing to enhance the original even more. It's never a bad time to throw on The Thing, but October belongs to fright, so no time like the present. Enjoy! And be sure to leave comments about who YOU think is The Thing in the closing credits!

Pod Stallions is Back.....in Pog Form
April, 2006 was a momentous time on the interwebs, for it was the birth-time of the legendary Plaid Stallions. Brought to life by a man determined to find use out of the many catalog pages he’d acquired, it quickly became an invaluable resource for toy reference and fashion giggles. It’s since expanded its borders with a podcast, action figure releases, a toy magazine and soon it’s own cologne in a Brick Mantooth bust bottle. We might be a tad late to the birthday party, but we honor it’s 20th trip round the sun in a brand new (!!) episode. There’s a saying, ‘you’re as young as you feel’, and if that’s true than Plaid Stallions is still just a pre-teen, excited by all the best pop culture from the best decades. And trying to get the Spectrum channel to unscramble every Friday night. Happy B-Day, PS

The Elephant Man, Frank Booth, Agent Cooper and Bob, Sailor and Lula and the big sweaty Baron with bad skin. Just some of the denizens in the film world of David Lynch. It’s safe to say the works of Lynch weren’t everyone’s cup of coffee.
And that’s as it should be, with most left of center output. But his impact can’t be denied, and as weirdos and movie freaks ourselves, it seemed appropriate to celebrate the late auteur. (Plus the man himself is someone we’d happily spend time with).
But don’t think this is the snooty, art-house ep of PS; we still manage to get Richard Lynch and 80s underwater monster flicks in, too. The owls are not what they seem, but this is a damn fine cup of Pod Stallions. Drink full and descend!
