Two months ago I spent about four hours in two sessions answering questions from Rock for Life activists before their outreach tour this summer. This is the audio from the second of those two sessions. Click here for the audio from the first session.
I’ll list the topics below in case you want to jump around:

Every other Wednesday we publish a new episode of the Equipped for Life Podcast, available to everyone who purchases our course, “Equipped for Life: A Fresh Approach to Conversations about Abortion.” Generally, these podcast episodes won’t be available to the general public, but we plan on releasing short clips from the episodes every Thursday, to give you a sense of what these podcasts are like.
In this episode of the Equipped for Life Course Podcast, Tim gives a fuller explanation of the argument that I presented in the course about avoiding burden of proof shifts, and responds to counter-arguments.

In this clip from the full episode, Tim explains a pragmatic reason to not be quick to shift the burden of proof and responds to a counter-argument.

Little conversational agreements create clarity about the kind of conversation you’re having. This is especially helpful with difficult people, because it clarifies for you and for them that they’re being difficult and calls them to a higher standard of dialogue.

It is one of the questions I’m asked the most often. We’ve all experienced it. You’re talking to someone about abortion or something else and it’s just not going very well. You start doubting whether any good will come from letting the dialogue continue. If you do decide to end the conversation, you have to figure out how to graciously bring the dialogue to a close, which can also be tricky. How do you know? What factors should you consider?

In this episode of the Equipped for Life Course Podcast, Tim, Jacob, and I conclude our discussion of how to respond when people bite the bullet by discussing the examples of infanticide and moral relativism.

In these clips from the full episode, Tim and I argue about whose approach to responding to relativists is more effective.
Note: As we explained in the first clip, the audio from the first three episodes of the podcast is distorted due to a technical problem. This was resolved before the next recording session. Please excuse the low quality of these first three Equipped for Life Podcast clips.

Sometimes when I talk about abortion with strangers, it feels like I’ve already had that conversation before, because they’re making familiar statements. But the truth is, I haven’t had that conversation before, because I haven’t heard that statement from that person before. Even though some statements are very common, different people mean very different things by them. A recent conversation I had with a hotel shuttle driver named “Mark” reminded me that while I may have heard the same words before, I hadn’t heard his story before. I think there’s a lesson you can learn from this situation that will help you have better dialogues with pro-choice people.
