Let's take a look at human judgment vs. Jesus' mercy.
## Matthew 7:1-6
1 Do not judge, or you too will be judged. 2 For in the same way you judge others, you will be judged, and with the measure you use, it will be measured to you.
3 “Why do you look at the speck of sawdust in your brother’s eye and pay no attention to the plank in your own eye? 4 How can you say to your brother, ‘Let me take the speck out of your eye,’ when all the time there is a plank in your own eye? 5 You hypocrite, first take the plank out of your own eye, and then you will see clearly to remove the speck from your brother’s eye.
6 “Do not give dogs what is sacred; do not throw your pearls to pigs. If you do, they may trample them under their feet, and turn and tear you to pieces.
## Additional Quotes and Scriptures
“He doesn’t mean that we shouldn’t have high standards of behavior for ourselves and our world, but that the temptation to look down on each other for moral failures is itself a temptation to play a part, to act, to be a ‘hypocrite’ (which literally means a play-actor, one who wears a mask as a disguise.”
“The warning about judging is the reverse of the positive blessing Jesus advocated in the fifth beatitude. “Blessed are the merciful, for they will be shown mercy.”
“The verb ‘judge’ (krino) has a number of different nuances, depending on the context-ranging from ordinary discernment or evaluation to judicial litigation, to bestowal of reward, to pronouncement of guilt, and to the absolute determination of a person’s fate. The latter two senses are in view here: Jesus warns his disciples against setting themselves over others and making a pronouncement of their guilt before God.”
1 COR 5:12-13…12 What business is it of mine to judge those outside the church? Are you not to judge those inside? 13 God will judge those outside.
MATTHEW 18:15…”if your brother or sister sins, go and point out their fault, just between the two of you. If they listen to you, you have won them over.
2 COR 5:21… 21 God made him who had no sin to be sin[b] for us, so that in him we might become the righteousness of God.
JOHN 5:24…24 “Very truly I tell you, whoever hears my word and believes him who sent me has eternal life and will not be judged but has crossed over from death to life. 25 Very truly I tell you, a time is coming and has now come when the dead will hear the voice of the Son of God and those who hear will live. 26 For as the Father has life in himself, so he has granted the Son also to have life in himself. 27 And he has given him authority to judge because he is the Son of Man.
ROMANS 2:1-4…You, therefore, have no excuse, you who pass judgment on someone else, for at whatever point you judge another, you are condemning yourself, because you who pass judgment do the same things. 2 Now we know that God’s judgment against those who do such things is based on truth. 3 So when you, a mere human being, pass judgment on them and yet do the same things, do you think you will escape God’s judgment? 4 Or do you show contempt for the riches of his kindness, forbearance and patience, not realizing that God’s kindness is intended to lead you to repentance?
TITUS 3:3-5…3 At one time we too were foolish, disobedient, deceived and enslaved by all kinds of passions and pleasures. We lived in malice and envy, being hated and hating one another. 4 But when the kindness and love of God our Savior appeared, 5 he saved us, not because of righteous things we had done, but because of his mercy.
