This Herod was known as Herod Antipas and was one of the sons of Herod the Great who reigned when Jesus was born. Upon Herod the Great’s death, the Romans divided his kingdom among three of his sons and his sister

The word, “Tetrarch literally means the ruler of a 1/4 part, generally, as here, spoke of any subordinate ruler of a section of a country.”

This Herod the tetrarch – also known as Herod Antipas – ruled over Galilee where Jesus did most of His public ministry and therefore heard much about Jesus. His brother Archelaus ruled to the south, and his brother Philip ruled to the north. His sister Salome was given a city or district near Ashdod.

Matthew 14 gives us some great instruction on discipleship and important lessons we need to learn if we want to be used of God.

First. We need the fear of the Lord not the unhealthy fear of man.

It was after one thirty in the morning and I couldn’t sleep. I was laying in bed thinking about our cities homeless population that like many of you it overwhelms me. I pray for the homeless, I reach out to many in my daily travels. I deliberately seek them out when possible to learn more of their stories in hopes that somehow I can make a difference.

At the end of Matthew chapter 11:28 Jesus said all you who are tired of legalism… come to Me… The scribes and Pharisee’s were on one side and the people on the other…

Tomorrow Monday May 27th the last Monday of the month has been set aside to remember the fallen in Battle of all wars. Flags are placed on the graves of those who fought and died during times of war.
