"And when you have trust, it will allow both of the partners to explore their interest and friendships without feeling that they need to be monitored or restricted. And when you don't have that trust, it leads to that over controlling behavior which strains the relationship. Another important factor in relationship is communication. So if there are moments when insecurity or jealousy arises, it's important to talk openly and don't act possessively."

"And if you become possessive in these moments, I think you are not being romantic. You mean insecure because you're leading from this place of fear that oh, this awesome person who's in my life, if they do this thing that they are doing, which is triggering my insecurity, I might lose them because they might find someone else, etc. Which is a problem of self worth. What I'm trying to say is you do not balance love and possessiveness."

"And when people feel trapped, they, you know, naturally pull away. That's the opposite of what you want, right? Maybe you feel possessive because your partner is, you know, partner is really popular or they have a lot of attention from others. You start thinking, why are they, you know, talking to other people? When they have you, they have me. But, you know, love, real love, is built on trust."

"Because really, one of the things that really defined the indian subcontinent is how open and how much of its culture is defined by the diversity of people. Unity and diversity is literally one of the codes that's associated with India. Unity in diversity. If it didn't exist because there was limited freedom, let's say there was no freedom for religion, there was no freedom to travel anywhere. And in turn, there's no freedom for, like, women as well."

"And I think that's a very fitting point for this discussion as well as the. There is no individualization that can be had, because a lot of the ways we define ourselves is by the choices that we make. And we are allowed to make. For example, even the way that we dress, the clothes that we wear, the hair that we have, it all defines us. It's all choices that we have made."

"They represent a broad pattern of repression, where the right to criticize and question is increasingly under threat, while the power to rule and impose goes unchecked. This drift away from open dialogue stiffles growth, development, and democracy itself. In a country with limited freedom, the media, often referred to as the fourth pillar of democracy, would no longer serve as a watchdog for the public. Instead, it would align itself with the ruling party, broadcasting news that serves a specific agenda."

  • @starlightvish | Srishti Book Club | Is there such a thing as too much freedom? Here are my thoughts...

"I personally do not believe in the concept of too much freedom. Freedom is an inherent right of every individual and the foundation of democracy. When we impose unnecessary limitations on this freedom, I think we threaten the very essence of a democratic society. While ideas and actions can be debated and criticized, the right to freedom itself must remain inviolable. Indias legislative history reveals a complex journey of constitutional amendments that have shaped our current rights."
