20+ REASONS YOU SHOULD APPRECIATE YOURSELF
It’s easy to find reasons to criticize yourself. We constantly think about the mistakes we’ve made, relive the bad memories, and tend to think the worst about ourselves.
Part of it is because those negative memories have intense emotions behind them. Part of it is because things like social media only show the “good” side of people—everyone only posts the best version of things, and it makes us feel like we aren’t living up to those standards.
But it’s important that you remember why you should be appreciated and why you deserve to feel good about yourself. As you relax, take a moment to reflect on qualities that make you the amazing person you are.
You have survived everything that has come your way. It may not have been pretty, but you made it through. Congratulations.
Despite failure or rejection, you’ve moved forward. You could have given up, but you didn’t.
You have forgiven people who have hurt you. It wasn’t easy to let go, but you were strong enough to do so.
You have faced fear and come through the other side.
You have been forced to change, and you were strong enough to adapt. That isn’t easy.
Despite facing problems that you were sure were impossible, you managed to get through it.
You have tried new things, even when it would have been easier to sit in comfort. That’s not something everyone can do.
You have made someone laugh. They might have even just enjoyed hearing you laugh. That has brought joy and brightened someone’s day.
You have asked someone how they are doing. That simple gesture probably turned someone’s mood around.
Even though they might not have deserved it, you gave someone a second (or third) chance.
You look out for the people you care about. Your friends and family mean a lot to you, and you’re there for them.
The way you treat the people around you is how you would want to be treated. It’s hard to live up to the golden rule, but you try your best.
You have been through a lot.
You are part of someone’s favorite memory, and they cherish you for being there in that moment.
You have gone through many experiences that have shaped who you are and given you wisdom to pass to others.
Even when it seemed impossible, you started over in some regard, whether that was a new job, relationship, or moving to a new city.
You have learned to take care of yourself. Even when you would rather just curl up in a blanket and let time pass by, you get up anyway.
Your life journey has taught you what matters, and you are able to appreciate the world around you.
You have taken bumps and bruises in life, and learned to heal and move forward in a positive way.
You have passion about things—whether that’s your hobby, interest, a family, or a dream—that makes you unique.
You have talents and traits that make you special. You might be creative, or dependable, or extremely brave, or funny; whatever the trait is, it makes you special.
You have great thoughts. Take a moment to reflect on all the silly, funny, creative, and complex thoughts that you have ever single day.
People around you are happy to have you in their life.
You made it. You might not be exactly where you want to be on your life’s journey, but you have made it this far. You are strong, you are unique, you are kind and amazing. You’ve made it and you are worth appreciatin
