Here are some of the themes in the readings for the 3rd Sunday of Advent.
1st Reading – Isaiah 35:1-6a,10
All creation on earth will be renewed by the glory and splendor of the Lord.
When God comes upon his people, the blind see, the deaf hear, the lame leap and the mute sing.
Psalm – 146:6-10
“Lord, come and save us.”
The Lord God nurtures, heals and supports his people.
2nd Reading – James 5:7-10
Like a farmer tending the soil, we must be patient for the Lord.
We stand firm without complaint, for the Just Judge is near.
Gospel – Matthew 11:2-11
From prison, John the Baptist sends disciples to Jesus if he is the one who is to come.
Christ responds by quoting the prophets Isaiah and Malachi, affirming that while John is the greatest of all the prophets, the least in the kingdom of heaven is greater than he.

Fr. Andrew reflects on how we share the light of Christ in the unique context of our personal discipleship.

Let’s take a look at some of the themes that we find in the readings for the 2nd Sunday of Advent.
1st Reading – Isaiah 11:1-10
The spirit of the Lord shall rest upon an ancestor of the line of Jesse, and he shall judge with justice, wisdom, and strength.
Creation will experience profound peace, and the Gentiles shall seek out the dwelling of God.
Psalm – 72: 1-2,7-8,12-13,17
“Justice shall flourish in his time, and fullness of peace for ever.”
The king shall rescue the poor and judge with justice.
2nd Reading – Romans 15:4-9
Through Christ, God gives us hope, endurance, and encouragement.
We welcome one another, as Christ welcomes us.
Gospel – Matthew 3:1-12
John the Baptist proclaims, “Repent, for the kingdom of heaven is at hand!”
John speaks of one who is coming after him, who will baptize with the Holy Spirit and fire.
