Let’s explore some of the themes that we find in the Mass readings for the 18th Sunday of the Year.
1st Reading – Ecclesiastes 1:2; 2:21-23
All things are vanity! All labor and toil occupy us with sorrow and grief, only to pass away.“If today you hear his voice, harden not your hearts.”Mindful that our lives are a brief span, we call upon God to be gracious and bless us.Raised with Christ in glory, we seek what is above. We put to death the earthly things of this life, and put on the new self in Christ.Jesus warns against all greed, reminding us that life does not consist of possessions. The Lord then offers a parable about a rich man whose life is about to end.Mass Readings – 18th Sunday of the Year (#114)
