Podcast Under The Stairs

Welcome to the next instalment of our sub-set of show exclusively looking at the Italian Collection releases of 88 Films.

88 Films have, for the last 2 years or so, have been on a tear releasing a torrent of Italian genre classics in high definition. I have been purchasing them and it should be no surprise to anyone, I have left them pretty much unwatched (what can I say...I'm a compulsive collector).

In order to watch the movies I buy, and of course create some quality content for you all Under the Stairs, I will be running through each of the movies on this bonus series between 1-2 movies a month depending on the TPUTS schedule.

So strap yourself in for a rollercoaster ride of alleged plagiarism, zombies, gore, rape, genital mutilation, sexism, revenge, gialli, cops and robbers, cannibalism, sci fi & more bush and titties than an annual subscription to Penthouse magazine.

Disc 12 in the collection is the movie credited as the spark that lit the fuse under the cannibal genre boom of the 70's and 80's in Italian cinema. Umberto Lenzi is back in the TPUTS scope as we look at the genre trendsetter, and video nasty, The Man From Deep River (1972).

The grading follows the Netflix rating style of 1 = Hated It, 2 = Didn’t Like It, 3 = Liked It, 4 = Really Liked It & 5 = Loved It

The Man From Deep River

Duncan: 3

Up next on the Italian Collection Series is Disc 12 - Emanuelle and the Last Cannibals (1977).

Summer has arrived at last Under the Stairs which means our 5th annual Top 10 series of shows has come to take you through those uncomfortably humid days with a hearty dose of horror!!

I am not one to be accused of short changing listeners or setting easy goals either which makes this years Top 10 series very special indeed!! Over the next 10 episodes in the series we will count down each year in the decade known as the 80's with the mission statement of creating the definitive Top 10 list of movies in the decade, but with a little TPUTS twist if you will.

Noah's Ark rules will mean that each year will be represented in the creation of the list and will force myself and my guests to short list each year in the decade from 10 movies to 2!! That's right...only 2 movies from each year can go through which means that this list can/might & will be unlike any Top 10 list of 80's horror movies created on a podcast!!

On this episode my guests are Cort Psyops & Liam Rafferty and we are looking at 10 movies from 1981 with mini reviews of The Beyond, The Howling, Just Before Dawn, An American Werewolf in London, Scanners, Evilspeak, Possession, The Evil Dead, The Burning & Friday the 13th Part 2

Disc 11 in the collection is rare entry in the Poliziotteschi sub-genre of Italian cinema, rare in that it is directed by the man synonymous with the depravity of cannibalism in celluloid, Ruggero Deodato. Live Like A Cop Die Like A Man (1976) might have been his only police crime thriller but that doesn't mean that the blueprints of Deodato's future exploits aren't bubbling behind the surface.

The grading follows the Netflix rating style of 1 = Hated It, 2 = Didn’t Like It, 3 = Liked It, 4 = Really Liked It & 5 = Loved It
