Athena Rosette is the creator of the Alter Ego Podcast. Athena has been taking on Alter Egos in her travels, performance life as a Brazilian Samba Performer, and in personal realms. She noticed that these forms of herself all gave her certain abilities and awarenesses she hadn’t yet accessed within her normal state, and quickly led to improved health, happiness, and overall satisfaction in her life. Eventually, the lines began to blur as she took ownership of these different personas. Athena now hosts the Alter Ego Podcast, where she and a new guest each week explore the boundaries of self expression and awareness.
In this interview we explore:
+ The trap of wanting our first episodes to be ‘perfect’ and why authenticity is WAY more impactful with your audience than perfection.
+ Finding your ‘podcaster alter ego’ to support you on the journey
+ Really useful tips for protecting the privacy and anonymity of guests who are sharing confidential or very private information on your show.

Back in 2016, I decided to take a leap. I’d been podcasting for over a year and absolutely adored it. What I wasn’t adoring was my current job. So I quit my job and decided to have a go at turning my podcasting passion into a business.
I spent three months in my creative cave, writing the Ignite: Podcasting for Changemakers program. Then, towards the end of 2016, I launched the program and myself as a women’s podcast mentor into the world.
Nine months on, my business is gaining traction and momentum, most of which I owe to podcasting.
As the doors to Ignite have reopened again, I felt now was a great time to share more of my story with you.
I invited my good friend, Nicole Mathieson onto the show to pepper me with questions about my journey from a blogger to a podcaster to creating an online business.
We explore:
+ My foray into the online world as a blogger.
+ What happened when I switched from blogging to podcasting (hint: things exploded!)
+ How I turned my podcast into an online business and how podcasting has continually facilitated the growth of my business.
+ Why I created Ignite: Podcasting for Changemakers and what you can expect when you join the program.

Vana Feliciano is a pint size poet, painter, podcaster and planeteer. Deeply committed to laughing until it hurts and insights through increments, she is the founder of The Quiet Brave, a lifestyle community for the consciously courageous and Quiet Brave Radio, a podcast that explores the practice of being a conscious woman. She believes in community over criticism and that life is best lived as a nourished practice.
I was fortunate enough to connect with Vana as one of the students of the Ignite: Podcasting for Changemakers program. It was a thrill for me to watch her launch her podcast into the world and I knew I needed to invite her onto the show to share her journey.
In this interview we explore:
+ Why Vana chose podcasting over other methods of communicating with her community such as blogging or vlogging.
+ Doing the inner work and removing limiting beliefs on the podcasting path.
+ Really useful strategies Vana uses to move past perfectionism and overwhelm.
+ How she used social media during her launch to keep her accountable and build excitement with her audience.
+ Breaking your show up into seasons to allow space to replenish creativity and let new insight drop in.
+ And hear from someone first hand who used the Ignite program to launch their podcast.

“I started to play with the sound of myself and step outside of it. I didn’t judge it as much as grow it, expand on it, colour it a lot more than I was.”
Elsie Escobar starting podcasting in 2006 when she created Elsie’s Yoga Class in which she began sharing audio recordings of her live yoga classes. That podcast has now been downloaded over 4 million times. But the story doesn’t stop here. Elsie’s obsession with podcasting then got her a job working with Libsyn, the leading podcast host and distribution network. She’s the co-host and producer of The Feed: The Official Libsyn podcast. She also co-runs the She Podcasts Facebook group the largest community for women in podcasting and co-hosts the She Podcasts podcast. Yup. This woman lives and breathes podcasting.
In this episode, Elsie and I explore:
+ All the incredible opportunities presented to Elsie since she began her podcasting journey.
+ Self-sabotage, self-criticism and giving yourself time to get better at the podcasting process.
+ The most common fear that stops women from getting started.
+ Becoming okay with the sound of your voice.
+ Being yourself behind the microphone.

ABOUT ELSIE ESCOBAR
I work in the cross-section of technology, digital media & holistic living with a heavy bias on podcast strategy and creative use of audio. As a podcaster since 2006, I was one of the first female *indie* podcasters using audio to teach yoga. Elsie’s Yoga Class has not been downloaded over 4 million times! I’m currently the only female pundit in the podcasting space with expert insight into indie podcasters’ impact, influence, and power. My obsession for podcasting got me a job working with Libsyn, the leading podcast host and distribution network created in 2004. I’ve been there since 2007 and have had the pleasure of working with hundreds of podcasters, giving them tools for better production, educating them in the space, as well as cultivating a strongly engaged community through The Feed: The Official Libsyn podcast which I both co-host and produce. The Feed’s sole focus is keeping people podcasting. I also co-run the largest community for women in podcasting with a corresponding podcast (of course) called She Podcasts. Our sole mission is to empower women to continue to share their voices while creating a safe community of podcasting education and support.

“I am always thinking how can I add value? How can I add so much value that people want to listen to the podcast, they want to support it, they want to help with its growth, they want to share it? That, for me, is a really key point.”
After working in finance for 8 years, Sarah Williams quit her city job and spent 18 months travelling the world, climbing Kilimanjaro, backpacking around South America and doing a ski season. She used this time to help her to decide what she wanted to do with her life.
On her return, she decided she wanted to motivate and inspire young girls. She developed Tough Girl Challenges and began speaking at local schools to girls about their goals and plans for the future.
Shockingly, she discovered many of the girls didn’t have any goals, most of them not being exposed to inspirational female role models.
In August 2015 Sarah launched the Tough Girl Podcast where she interviews inspirational female explorers, adventurers, athletes and everyday women who have overcome great challenges.
In this interview Sarah and I explore:
+ How Sarah grew her following to 800+ women in her Tough Girl Tribe Facebook group and 240,000 downloads.
+ The systems and processes Sarah has in place for time management, productivity and promotion.
+ How Sarah monetises her podcast.
+ The opportunities and growth gifted to her through her podcast.

“It’s important for women because culturally and historically speaking, we’ve been repressed and, until just recently, we haven’t really had a voice. Now we’re really speaking up and sharing our experience of what it’s like to be in a world ruled by men… It’s such a breath of fresh air to have the freedom to speak our experience of life and bring that conversation into the world for everybody to listen to.”

She shares her practical, yet spiritually-infused interpretations of the sacred language of astrology with women seeking radical honesty, self-awareness, and deep transformation.
