First, yes, this show is very late. Blame a long work weekend and a few days dealing with COVID (remember that? it's still around) for this show being later than it should have been. But we have plenty of happenings and goings-ons from Anime NYC to talk about, along with the winner of the Look Back sweepstakes, a major deal for One Piece in the UK, and the long-awaited and long-belated summer dub cast rundown - perfect for the season almost ending, we know.
We'll be back next time to talk about some very interesting Shonen Jump developments that one of us is especially excited about.

Yep, it's a shorter mid-convention show here, going up while Anime NYC is in progress in... well, New York, duh. We'll be back next time with a fuller show talking all of those wild convention hijinks, but for now we've got some very interesting developments with Weekly Shonen Jump, in the return of a legendary title coming at the cost of the sudden ending of another title that most definitely exists. Also, nobody wants to let Attack on Titan die and we're very annoyed by that. All of that and a bit more coming your way in this breezier show right here, enjoy it and enjoy the rest of Anime NYC.
Both in person and on Twitter watching things get announced, of course.

So, a lot has happened in the month since our last episode. Some good, some bad, some downright insane, and not everything involved someone who may or may not have had coitus with a couch like a total weirdo. But we're back, we're easing through things for the time being, and we're running through the big details for the new Ranma 1/2 anime (starting in TWO MONTHS), all of the goodies from Otakon, Devilman fans eating supremely well, and one of the biggest leaks we'e sen in a very long time. Because nothing is ever boring around here, is it?

And here we are, running down the major bits and pieces from Anime Expo once again, all while the industry is threatened more now than ever in recent memory of suffering from a bursting bubble. It's best to enjoy things while we still can, but that does include plenty of upcoming projects like... more Fire Force and Blue Exorcist... but there's more TRIGUN and Panty & Stocking coming so it all balances out in the end. And that's not withstanding the folks from RWBY getting a new place of employment at Viz Media, the newest arc of One Piece getting ready for its dub premiere and the long-awaited finish line of "simuldub" inching closer and closer, and even a new film project from Shoji Kawamori in the works as well, along with plenty more to dive into and discuss. There's a lot to get to as we're in the heat of convention season, so for this "landmark" 175th episode, we're... going to do the same as usual. Except it's molten hot outside, so that's what makes this a bit more special. I think.
A little bit of FYI for those who are curious: most shows we do are initially recorded anywhere from 2-3 hours in one call, though sometimes it can be a little longer than 3 hours, while the editing process can take anywhere from 6 to 10 hours to scroll through everything and make the necessary cuts and edits in several editing sessions. So if anyone’s wondering why these shows take a while to come out, that’s why. It’s a one-man editing operation on a MacBook Pro, at the end of the day.
We'll be back to talk SDCC and Otakon very soon.

It's the last stop before Anime Expo, and with it comes a smaller platter of stuff to talk about, but a platter nonetheless - and since that Urusei Yatsura anime revival worked so well, why don't we do it again with Ranma 1/2? It'll be... something, that's for sure. There's also a not-so-great update on the recent business dealings of Kadokawa, HiDive getting back into business with Hulu, the end of My Hero Academia drawing near, and an early best-and-worst of an admittedly middling spring season that had the real best show of the season be unavailable due to a return of Toei's bag-fumbling skills. C'est la vie, as some say.
We'll catch you all back here next time for the AX goods. And all of the extra nonsense that's sure to come with it.

Yes, this episode is very late. Life sometimes gets in the way of getting this show done. Nevertheless, there's quite a bit to talk about as we are in the "pre-Anime Expo" buildup, namely some big moves from Science SARU and GKIDS, a good amount of manga and light novel synopsis reading, a deep dive on Netflix's anime data, and the (hopefully) permanent financial demise of GAINAX. All of that, and so much more to come both in this show and in the coming weeks. Call it the prelude to the madness in LA.
P.S. the Attack on Titan discussion episode that was promised last year? It’s cancelled. Sorry for that, too. Just imagine all of us screaming for 2 hours straight and that’s the discussion we would have had.

Well, then. After taking an unexpected month-long break from this show, we are FINALLY back and we are FINALLY whole again with Andrew back in the saddle to give all of the shenanigans that have been sorely missed in his absence. This includes running down the spring dub casts (finally) and reading some cringy light novel summaries, and it also includes talking about some pretty cool things like a Sakamoto Days project for Netflix getting leaked out, TOONAMI REWIND on Fridays, a positive tease for 86 from VIZ of all companies, a scintillating sell for the new Code Geass project, and the curious case of Dead Dead Demon's Dededede Destruction going from movies to a TV series with zero notice - same with Crunchyroll picking it up and giving it a dub ALSO with zero notice. All the fun you've come to expect, and then some, back at it again for all of you to enjoy over this holiday weekend.

Since our last episode, Cody Rhodes "finished the story" at WrestleMania to become the undisputed WWE Champion, and that's good. Sadly, also since our last episode, the overlords at MAPPA decided to finish another story by axing a long-awaited movie project after years of nothing, and that's bad. Things aren't fun, right now, and with that comes a bit of a lull in everything as this is one of the quickest episodes we've done in a very long time - there's some news about Embracer Group to talk about, some updates on that live-action One Punch Man movie project, some brief chatter about SPY x FAMILY Code: White, and talk of Netflix adding some more MANIME to their lineup next moth. Again, it's a pretty quick show, but things should be a bit longer next time when we're at full strength again.
And if you need something longer to listen to, our friends and colleagues over at Dub Talk have their 2024 DUBBIE AWARDS show up, so check it out over on their YouTube channel and in your podcast platform of choice.
P.S. yes this thumbnail gag has been used before. Good memes remain good.

As of this episode going up, we’re in the middle of WrestleMania weekend, and that means many things to many people, and it means hoping that a certain someone finally “finishes his story” on Sunday so that we can all be done hearing about it. But for us, the grind continues as we put a bow on the winter season and lament the continued cannibalism of the anime industry with a tale of what happened the last time a company or two or three went under. It was a dark time. But we also have a recap of the major announcements from this year’s AnimeJapan, all the good and bad and “what is this” because we all don’t quite know everything new coming out, and also a case where ALL the monkey’s paws have curled in regards to Macross… and Disney.
Convention season has also begun, so play it smart and safe if you’re going to one.
