    But they found Him. And they showered Him with gifts. Gifts that would support Him for years to come.

  • Christmas Story Week 1 Day 4 – Luke 2:22-35
    A Sword Will Pierce Your Soul…
    Simeon was a unique prophet. He only shows up for a brief moment, but long enough to give us some incredible information. He again, like the shepherds, tell this young couple that their baby boy is, in fact, the Messiah.
    Luke makes it very clear that the Holy Spirit was “on” Simeon. He walked with the Holy Spirit in a way that was at that time rare. There was coming a day, though, because of this very same Jesus, when the Holy Spirit would not be rare, but would be given to every believer. What an amazing day this must have been.
    Right up until the moment when Simeon prophesied the untimely death of Jesus, a moment he prophesied that Mary would have to witness and bear. For Mary and Joseph, Jesus brought the greatest of joys and the worst of pain. But despite the pain, it was worth it, because through Jesus the Gentiles (that’s me) would come to know God just as the Jews could too.

  • Christmas Story Week 1 Day 3 – Luke 2:8-21
    How is the manger a sign?
    Signs were things like earthquakes and comets, floods and droughts. Things outside the control of man. God would use these things to prove to people that a prophet was from Him and had a message from heaven to deliver. If the sign they foretold came to pass, it would mean their prophecy was legitimate.
    But a manger? The angels told the shepherds that the sign of the Messiah would be him as a baby lying in a manger. A feeding trough for animals. How is that a sign? And why on earth would the Messiah, God’s Son, be in a manger?
    God, the perfect creator, arrayed in unapproachable light, came as humbly as anyone ever has into this world. Then He announced it to more of the most humble people of this world. It starts to beg the question, “what is going on here?”
