Short version of this article: You shouldn’t vote for anyone who’s guaranteed to win or to lose. If there are 6 plausible candidates you like, you should vote for them. If there are fewer than 6, you should vote for fewer than 6. Leaving those ballot slots blank will indeed help them. However, the power of those blank slots is pretty small, so you should not try too hard to have blank slots.
