Using the Muskets & Tomahawks rules, players control 54mm models in this non-historical scenario set in the French & Indian War (1754-1763) shortly after the French capture Fort Duquesne (present day Pittsburg). A French and Indians force is attacking the small British settlement of Pitt’s Landing with orders to burn the settlement to the ground and inflict as many casualties as possible.

Two of the nicest people in wargaming make guest appearances for the first time on this show. The amazing Jon, and his incredible wife Diane, Sutherland share their love of wargaming.

25 Hour Game-a-thon for Children’s Hospital

Can gaming help those in need? The answer is a resounding YES! Each year the Extra Life organization puts on a game-a-thon where gamers, like you and me, play games for 24 hours to raise money for their local children’s hospital. All of the proceeds from the event go directly to the designated hospital.

The funds are used to provide medical care for kids whose families otherwise could not afford the help.

An Academic Study of Wargamers with Ian Cross & Aaron Bostian

Ever wondered if the stereotypical American wargamer is accurate? Y’know the one I mean. It’s the one where American wargamers are pigeonholed as:

male

white

upper middle-class

politically conservative or politically disinterested / apolitical

“geeky” or “nerdy”

unshowered, smelly, or exhibiting poor personal hygiene

Fulbright scholar Ian Cross researched this issue as part of his capstone project to receive his Masters in Public Policy. Recurring guest Aaron Bostian joins the conversation. Together the three of us discuss Ian’s survey of wargamers. He reveals his results. They just may surprise you.

100 Wargaming Tips

The year is 2006 and the place is the state of Massachusetts in the United States of America. A young man tentatively speaks these first, tentative words:

“Today is Thursday August 17, 2006. This is the first podcast of the CWF Game Discussions blog….now we’re gonna cue our intro music.”

More than six years and tens of thousands of hours later the CWF Game Discussions blog podcast morphed into Wargaming Recon.

The 100th episode is our chance to say thank you to everyone for all of the support. Without the encouragement, feedback, and kindness from each of you through the years we know that Wargaming Recon could not exist.
